I'm not completely satisfied with this but writing is all about writing and rewriting and rewriting. This is a start and it's something I can work with until I get my animation company started.
Chapter 1
The light of the blue hour seeped through open curtains of Piper’s bedroom. He had grown accustom to getting up prior to 6:30 he didn’t need an alarm but set it anyway. Piper laid on his back staring at the ceiling. His Echo began to play Corvus Corax’s Platerspiel. Within seconds of hearing the drones of the pipes he was out his queen size bed promptly making it. “Alexa stop. What’s the weather like?” The Echo stopped playing the song and then responded.
“In Oswego it’s 34 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Today’s forecast calls for increasing clouds with high of 48 and a low of 31.” Piper slipped on a pair of Under Armour Cold Gear tights over his naked muscular legs followed by a similar top. He then pulled threw on generic sweatshorts and an Albertus Magnus Lacrosse t-shirt. After some light stretching he goes for his morning run.
Sweaty and heavily breathing Piper stormed through his front door and headed to the kitchen. He filled a large drinking horn with water. His water cooler was an atmospheric water generator, Piper never drank tap water. He avoided using it for cooking as well. He placed the horn back on its stand. He filled a pot with water he got from the fridge to begin making his steel cut oatmeal. As the water boiled he mixed coffee, grass fed unsalted butter, and coconut oil in his blender. Piper sipped the concoction slowly. The Irish oats he was preparing takes time to cook so he stepped back outside to collect the newspapers he gets delivered.
The papers still in their bags get tossed onto his coffee table. Piper stirred the mush in the pot so more. After he poured himself another cup of his buttered coffee he pulled to large scrap books from his book case. One was labeled 2024 US Politics and the other 2024 World Events. He used a precision knife to catalog all that he deemed as historically significant. “Alexa, what is the price for oil?”
“Oil is currently trading at four hundred seventeen Canadian-American dollars a barrel” Piper writes down the price on an index card. The card also has spots for gold, silver, and bitcoin. Piper rubbed his forehead and groaned.
“Another four years of Schmuck Schumer.”
Piper began to eat breakfast in the kitchen. He topped his oatmeal with a half pint of blueberries and a sliced up peach. As he removed the shell from his hard boiled egg he asked his Echo what is on his daily planner. “Alexa what do I have planned today?”
“For today November 13th 2024 you have 3 events scheduled. At 10 AM a meeting with your advisor regarding spring semester, At 1:30 PM a phone interview with North Rockland School District for a student teaching and lacrosse coach position. At 7 PM Cheesesteaks & Stout.”
“That’s right I get to play the pipes tonight!”
The Irish pub was situated on the banks of Lake Ontario. It had gone through so many owners and name changes that if you asked three different customers you would get three different answers. The one thing that did not change is every November the Celtic rock band Cheesesteaks & Stout would tour Central New York and for the past six years they would invite Francis Kelly Monaghan to play the Great Highland Bagpipes. Much to his parents annoyance he played the bagpipes since he was in the fifth grade. Though it wasn’t until the game he led his middle school lacrosse team out on the field with the pipes that he was given the nickname, Piper. Piper passed on wearing his traditional kilt in favor of his Utilikilt because he had requests to play at wakes and funerals.
Inside the pub the band outnumbered the customers. Since it wasn’t in walking distance from campus or on Bridge St the pub rarely attracted students but there were two in attendance. One that Piper recognized from the Western Civ class where he is a TA. He immediately approached her and the other girl. “Miss Ackerman, what are you doing here?”
“Duh. It’s a bar. I’m having a drink and I’m going to listen to a band.” She giggled while her friend was outlining Piper’s face with her eyes and twirling her hair.
“Come on Laurie, I know for a fact that you’re underage and probably have no interest in this type of music.”
“How do you know, I could have gone to countless Irish festivals on the Island.” She began to take a sip of the cheap light beer from her glass. Piper was going to reply but Laurie’s friend interrupted.
“She wants your cock!”
