Honey bee visiting flower

in bee •  6 years ago

Normally I leave them alone but this bee was inside the building of the garden centre oblivious to people and visiting the flowers.

At the time I didn’t really pay any attention to the flower… It seems to be morning glory as I don’t think the garden centre would be selling bindweed or Convolvulus arvensis. To an unknowledgeable person like me both look quite similar...

I found this site has explained the difference quite clearly:

Morning glory vine is an annual but reseeds itself so successfully you really wouldn’t know it. The bindweed plants grow from rhizomes, or underground storage structures that promote the spread of the weed.

I took a few photos with my phone which came out a bit out of focus but I was happy to get some details on the flower and the bee. One day I will paint it.

Sounds the the bee was in heaven with all the flowers probably in too much of a state of bliss to be concerned with the people. I think those are morning glories, bindweed grows close to the ground and yeah I doubt if they are selling bindweed :)

I agree @steven-patrick - it was interesting for me to learn about the actual differences between the two :D

Wow. Amazing photographs @cryptocariad. 😊

Thank you @gillianpearce :D

Ooo I love the first photo! That is a nice macro shot @cryptocariad! If only they don't sting, it would be nice to pat it, like the Mr. Finch's bees that you showed me 2 months back.

Thank you @marblely; and still on my to-do list together with the moths :D
