Beery times in December - Day 2

This year we switched to a DIY Xmas beer calendar.

This means, each day of the cold and dark @detlev get some light and warm feelings by searching for another beer from that big green Box.

2.nd of December beer - Kwak

I know that beer from his fancy glass - which I sadly not yet have in my collection.

So, I grabbed a glass with a lot memories from SteemFest 2 in Lisbon

The Taste

With the first sip, you feel that there is a bit more alcohol in this beer.

But there is as well this unique taste wich is a bit sweet and then a little bit bitter. And the color of the Kwak is really different in a brown-yellow.

What does the Expert say:

Pauwel Kwak has earthy aromas, a malty character with touches of liquorice, a nougat-like robustness and a warm finish not unlike caramelised banana. Yeast and red fruits are the strongest aromas, but you will also find a few herbs. The caramel is quite noticeable, together with the herbs and orange zest. The aftertaste is slightly bitter and herbal.

The Pauwel Kwak story

I looked up the internet for some more informations about this beer and this unique glass and found this

In Napoleon's time Pauwel Kwak was a brewer and the owner of the 'De Hoorn' inn in Dendermonde. Mail coaches stopped there every day. But at that time coachmen were not allowed to leave their coach and horses in order to have their thirst quenched along with their passengers. As a result, the inventive innkeeper had a special Kwak glass blown that could be hung on the coach. In this way the coachman had his Kwak beer safely at hand.

How does this new DIY calendar work?

It is so simple and cool as well.

My family know what I love and the found a big old box wich they painted in green color. Than they filled with some smooth stuff.

I think they „borrowed“ it from the rabbits from our friends house. As you see, even the cats helped with some work. They did the nice “patina“ to the green color.
