Oh for the love of Hop ! Friday Night Beer Discoveries #1

in beer •  8 years ago  (edited)

My world used to be small, and with my world, I mean my world of beer. It was pilsner and that was about it. Maybe maybe the occassional white beer. Last year though my friends introduced me to a world of beer beyond your average pilsner.

Shenanigans

I remember it clearly. Me and @exyle were coming back from a festival and were in dire need of pizza and some more brew when we arrived back at his place. @bennierex also joined in at this stage. Instead of familiar pilsner (lager) though, I got served something quite different. An IPA.

What the ... What are these here shenanigans !! where's my pilsner!!

Little did I know then that my world of beer had expanded then and there. Since that day, I've been on a mission to taste as many different beers as I can. Wherever I go, I try local brews. I love discovering new ones and introduce them back to my Beer Lovin' Buddies.

Regulary, on friday coming out of work, I hop past the local liqourstore. They carry a wide range of Craft Beer and they change stock regularly. There's almost always something new to try.

Flying Dog - Dead Rise

So for tonight, coming out of work and being real thirsty, I decided to go with this summer ale. It promissed to quelch my thirst.

I must've either read the label wrong, or my interpretation of summer ale is different from the brewers. This one (though very tasty) was nothing like I expected. I expected a fruity, citric beer, but was met with the taste of bitter IPA. Now don't get me wrong, I love IPA, and this one was great as far as those go, but not when you are ready to receive light fresh tastes.

Never judge a book by it's cover. I guess the same goes for Beer and it's Label.

Verdict

Color 8/10

I love the color on this one. It's richly gold, deep saturated yellows

Smell 5/10 on account of being deceitful

The smell threw me off a bit (it almost always does) because it DID smell citric. It had promise

Taste 7/10

While not quite what I was expecting, it did taste good. Albeit more like an IPA then a fresh beer. It had body though, so it had that going for it.

Overall, I will buy this one again knowing what to expect.

  • note : I left one of my IPAs unfinished on that fateful day of worldexpansion. DO NOT EVER DO THAT. I was cursed for months after that. Always finish your beer ladies and gents. Always !
