New beer from Sierra Nevada Brewery "Ovila"

in beer •  7 years ago  (edited)

A new beer has emerged from Sierra Nevada Brewery which is one of my favorite breweries on the market. Titled Ovila; this is a Belgian style white ale. I have am a huge fan of darker beers in general like Porters; Stouts and Brown Ales. Just recently I have started to drink white ales; particularly Allagash White and Alaskan. Both are heavy on the spices and taste very similar; out of those two I prefer Alaskan because it is cheaper.

"Sierra Nevada decided to team up with The monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux hold themselves to a higher standard. So when they challenged us to create a beer that transcends all others, our brewers blended Old World tradition with modern-day mastery to deliver the perfect expression of Belgian witbier worthy of a goblet but comfortable in a pint."

The color is opaque and honey gold in color. I have been to the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico, CA. It has an amazing tour that is free of charge and details the process to make beer at that location. The key to the taste of their beer is the water; minerals from their source of Sierra Mountain water is what gives pale ale such a great taste.

Alcohol content is 5.3%. Made using barley and wheat malts; Saphir, Spalter hops and orange peel/coriander spices. Its very easy to drink. I would say this is the response to Firestones popularity of 805 eating into the market for Sierras Pale Ale. Perfect for summer time and my girlfriend said she enjoys the taste more than all the beers I mentioned above. My snapchat below. Enjoy!
