Beer review: Imperial Kroeser

in beer •  3 years ago

I've had a rocky week at work, ups and downs, only to end on a massive up. So why not finish the week with a massive beer.

The imperial Kroeser is a 9ABV Russian imperial Stout, produced by a small Belgian company.

It comes in with a pallate remeniscent of chocolate, roast coffee, spices,... The finish is long and powerful. The warmth of the alcohol is appropriate, and not harsh.

This is a beer meant for slow sipping. No beer should be drank icecold, but this is definitely one which benefits from a higher drinking temperature, feel free to drink these at room temperature.

There are actually many different styles of stout, Russian imperial being thus named because for a time they were popular at the Russian imperial court. The high alcohol level worked well in Russian culture, and it also helpt to keep the beer from freezing.

A style currently known as Baltic Stouts and Baltic porters actually originated as a local attempt to imitate Russian imperials.

Cheers!
