I acquired my bee colony in the late summer/early fall, so to ensure they have enough supply over the winter I am preparing bee fondant!
Ingredients/Tools:
10 lbs of sugar, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 quart water, candy thermometer, stainless steel pot, baking sheets & parchment or wax paper and mixer - in my case I am using a drill with a cement mixer attachment
Boil on high until temperature reaches 235 F
once target is reached continue to boil on low for 15 minutes
then cool down in water bath til temperature reaches 80 F
carefully transfer to mixing bowl and mix until it's opaque white
pour onto baking sheet, let cool and then form into rolls
store in fridge or freezer

Yes normally they use their own honey supplies for over winter but I'm not sure how much they were able to restock since their previous owners harvested. So it's mostly a fail safe. I'm sure sugar is not as nutritious but their main energy comes from the sugar content. Like hummingbirds
