CEMETERY OF INVENTION

He made a bird that could fly without wings
Accused and banished for midday witchcraft
Sold to white traders in exchange for gin
Traders who exploited and drank of his craft
His talent they horded
His brain they melted
With his knowledge they boarded a flight to wealth
Sucked him dry and abandoned in poor health
Convicted and deported him on foot through a trestle
He returned an empty vessel

Our art galleries are mortuaries of invention
Where talents are hoarded and put on detention
Creativity appreciated based on connection
Mountain of promises put on erection
Talent fall sick for lack of attention
Creativity dies of dejection and rejection
Welcome to the cemetery of invention
Where we buried talents that suffered castration

Oh creative mind of an African child
Like raw gold deposited in the wild
With muscular security and iron gates
Locking opportunity with barbed wires and snakes
When money is shared like national cake
Talents we abandon to compete Bill Gate
White paper pays faster
Militancy pays better
Ballot box snatching pays richer
But talent definitely pays later
