I lost my gear but did i loose my skills? Halloween Photoshoot 2017.

in bescouted •  7 years ago  (edited)

Last year we did an amazing Halloween photoshoot i have shared here on Steemit previously, you migh remember a girl with a pencil in her nose or a Pepsi can in her eye? And i was saying that this year, we are going to do the second part of it.

Today was the day, the whole team came to my home studio, and we had a lot of fun doing it. Now when everybody has left, i took one image and sharing it as a sneak peak preview to the whole photoshoot i will be posting later. This year it was not that bloody but very professional.

The reason i am having these doubts, it has been almost four months since i did my last photoshoot, sold all my gear to build my startup which we put on Steem blockchain a few days ago. All i have left is Sony a6300 with a kit 16-50 lens. One beauty dish and one product photography tent which i put on that beauty dish today to get an improvised softbox.

The judgement is up to you. Does gear make a good photographer, o a good photographer makes the gear :) I do not know actually what did i just say, but anyway :) Hope you like it and have a great night!

Cheers!

The photographer definitely makes the gear! Sometimes when I look back at my older photos that were taken with cheap, basic gear, they almost seem better than the ones I take now with upgraded equipment.

Lovely work from everyone involved! This is a very detailed and beautiful shot! Always look forward to seeing more from you :)

Hi, yes, you are right, i think with the gear that is more simple we employ more imagination. And once it gets better and we accrue more of it we become a bit lazy... Or it may be just me :) really enjoyed doing a photoshoot and editing an image afterwards after all that time.

I took a little hiatus from photography for a couple years, so I know the feeling! I'm trying to re-learn everything now that I've decided to return :) I think my enthusiasm was much greater when I first started, and now I need to remember why photography used to make me so happy!

Your work is always very impressive :)

You are so right, there is certainly some burn-down which i was also experiencing ans it was getting less and less exciting. Not even close to what it was at the beginning. Taking a break is a good thing, you will come back with so much more love for it. and you will, as i do not know a person who managed to leave photography for good :)

Dude, you definitely still have your skills! You can have the most amazing gear in the world and still make bad photos. Its about knowing how to use that gear as much as knowing how to compose and create the right light for any given photo.
Have you ever seen the youtube channel DigitalRev TV? They used to do a series called the "Pro photographer, cheap camera challenge". It highlights this wonderfully where you see pros use terrible terrible cameras and still produce great photos.

I might have seen a few i also was watching quite a few where they produce outstanding work with smart phone cameras. All the gear on the market now, is really good enough. It is not the issue anymore. I did too much sharpening on this one i guess, it looks nice when viewing original but when compressed it looks shitty.

Beautiful, dear! You are very talented! Of course, everyone calls himself a photographer, who has bought an expensive camera and wants that his investment will pay off! So maybe this is so! Then I'll never become a photographer! But for me it's important to call a photographer an artist! This is possible only if the photographer has a talent! The talent to see the composition, color, light, plot! The equipment here does not really matter! You did the right thing, you sold it! You should have done this before and put all the money into the bitcoins, then now you would have returned it. You've jumped to another level! Congratulations! I registered in your platform and uploaded three photos! However, I do not know how to make a publication on Steemit!

I sold and put all my money into photography marketplace we are making, so maybe it will pay even better than bitcoin in the long run lol But you are so right, camera gear does not make a photographer. and i wish i new about crypto earlier, i still hope this is not too late lol

😁It's not too late! This is only the beginning! I wish you commercial success!

Still You have killed it! Amazing job anyway. And now from here You will get better gear soon soon :D

The funniest part is... i do not think i want it anymore. I had it and it made me lazy somehow, now i do not and i have to improvise and be creative again. Like i was using a product photography tent to soften a light on this one, and before i was using 300 EUR softbox... and this is not a flashlight, but just that box.. .

eheheh it sounds like fun! Maybe You need that in Your life now to create some more cool and creative pictures. :D Sometimes the unexpected creates the best results.

Hahaha... you must be very tired! But I got your meaning... :)
Put it this way...I would say a little bit of both - gear is important, but a good photographer is more important! :))

BTW: this is fantastic!

You might be right, at some point i lost my inspiration, but i will get back rested and with new ideas, i promise :)

You have mad skills my friend. Like what you said to me it is not the gear but the photographer. Your number one fan buddy :)

I am very honored that i inspire somebody. Ask anytime if you need for an advice, i will help to an extent of my knowledge.

Thanks david appreciate the support

I see it as the camera you use is just a tool.... Some tools are better than others but i think its all in how you use it!!! Great work on this one!!!

Thanks mate I do not neglect the importance of the camera but sometimes even the simple camera can produce outstanding results in the right hands I think :)
