Heres another portrait from the times where i shot almost everything on a black background. I used one beauty dish positioned right above the models face. Technically its called beauty lighting and its my go to lighting set up for portraits its either beauty lighting if i'm aiming for a flattering kind of light and Rembrandt lighting if i'm trying to add a bit of depth and mood to a photograph.
I've got many variations of this photograph for a few i added a second light at the back to create a rim light but for this image i felt the black background and black clothing worked really well. Oh not to forget i had a huge reflector on the models lap to bounce some of the light from the beauty dish to fill in shadows under the chin.
Originally i was going to use a softbox to light the model as its a softer light and even more flattering than a beauty dish which is slightly harsher and creates a more edgy light, but the jewellery looked to mundane as the soft light just wrapped around the jewellery and made it look grey. So i opted for the beauty dish which just made all the shiny objects glare with shine and added specularity to everything.
Again these are photographs i took a few years ago and its been a while since i've photographed anything in the studio as i've been caught up with the video side of things lately. However i am looking to do a lot more photography this year and maybe even film a few tutorials along the way just to give me something to do in between takes. Whats your take on that?
Beautiful woman.
