Traditionally trained as an engineer I turned my gaze towards making bespoke woodworking tools for my own use, tools often see by many other tool makers today where quality and longevity are desired, the following tools, were created by myslef over many decades, here are some of those tools which I still use today.
Above is what is known as a windsor beading tool, it is designed to make one off wooden beadings the ornate edgings that many antique furniture have fitted, like grandfather clocks, picture frames from yesteryear, it is the ideal tool for the furniture restorer, and has blank blades that the user grinds to match the old original beading for replacement and or repair.
The versions seen here are my own adaptation of the earlier tools but my version can be used right or left handed and cut shapes on any angle desired that a modern router simply could not achieve without many alterations.
They are made from Desert Ironwood and English Holly both ductile and hard materials, the handles are machined as a single section and then fitted with the finest broze rub strips and fixings. The lower fence can be positioned in four different places to suit the left or right handed users and the fence runs he entire width of the body, truly tools for connoisseur.
Above is a wide sellection of woodworkin marking and cutting gauges, the top pair are made from fallen stock timber and an old Laburnum tree that was blown over due to its root bowl having become rotton, which is common for this type of ornamental tree.
The next pair down are a double bladed micrometer adjustable cutting gauge left, and on the right is a traditional box shaped marking gauge made form Purpleheart timber that was reclaimed from an old Indian slate packing crate, and another free find that was thrown out with the rubbish.
And the last trio is a sellection of veneer cutters and markers for working with marquetry and veneering, all are made from high quality English Holly and African Ebony, the far right cutting gauge also has a quick lock cam lever and bronze fittings.
The next item is my own design of leather strap cutter, made predominantly from best brass or CZ 102 grade alloy that is easily worked and takes on a wonderful pattina over time, it has a cam locking lever and mechanism for quick change adjustments, and a hand turned Bur Hazel handle and Sterling silver ferrule.
I will add more tools as I get around to catologue them.
Those are some nice tools.
