I'm not very technically saavy, so don't expect lots of numbers and big words. I bought this scanner to scan old photos, and certain documents. I got in in the mail 4 days after purchase. I took it out of the box, scanned 65 pictures, edited them (basics, of course), and uploaded them to facebook in less than 2 hours!!1. LOVE that you can put 4 pictures on the bed, and the scanner crops them for you. They don't even have to be straight. Does it for you.2. The one touch is a little moody. Sometimes needs a couple pushes3. I haven't really done much with the auto editing, or more advanced editing. I'm sure the pics would come out better if I did. The quality is still pretty good. Not fantastic, but definately clear.4. each scan of 4 pictures takes about 10 seconds. Very fast, quiet.I agree with some others that the top is a bit flimsy, but if you're slightly tender when opening it it won't be a problem.I recommend!!!
I needed to make a slideshow for my wedding last year and I had to scan in a few hundred old pictures, a task I was dreading. I decided to take a chance on this scanner and it exceeded my wildest expectations. In terms of design, the scanner is very thin and low profile, very easy to move out of the way for storage and bring out when needed. It looks fine when sitting on your desk, but it's not a coffee table conversation piece or anything. In terms of operation, it's a great mix of features and ease of use. You can just throw a sheet of paper down, hit scan, and get an acceptable image. Or, you can throw that same sheet down, open the software, tweak the options, and get a file that fits exactly what you need. You can do anything in between, it's very versatile. My favorite feature, bar none, is the automatic recognition of different photos on the same scan. It saved me a TON of time by allowing me to put 4-6 pictures at a time on the scanner and scanned them in one pass, creating 4-6 different files as applicable. Brilliant! The color reproduction of the scanner was outstanding, far better than I was expecting. With a few quick tweaks in photo programs, I had twenty year old photos looking like they were taken yesterday.Overall, this is a great basic scanner and the value can't be beat.
We were looking for a simple, inexpensive, & portable (around the house) scanner - this product has met those needs. Software disk that came with the unit did not have the current software for our MacBook, so needed to go out to Internet to download. Download was a multi-step process... a bit cumbersome, but manageable. After download & install, Scanner was up & running - my test scan worked fine. The file management interface is a bit unfamiliar to me, however, this is our first scanner so it may be just getting used to all of the options for how to use it.Have successfully scanned several documents - some to save, some to just print. Becoming familiar with the interface, like the convenience of a home scanner (hooked up to a HP Lazerjet Printer, works great). Only issue noted so far is the registration of the original to the end scanned product - seems the edges of the glass used for registration for the original do not position for the scanned image copy. So we will need to learn how much to offset the original to accomplish a good copy... Problem is losing some image along the edges until positioned properly - standard 8 1/2 x 11 copy.

This scanner works really well for artwork and is extremely easy to set up. I just popped in the disc it came with and followed the instructions and then plugged it in when the instructions prompted me to do so. I also found a youtube video that reviewed this scanner which helped my decision. The guy (Teoh Yi Chie) shows everything you need to know about the program as well. Also, the scanner door does not need to be closed while scanning. Perfect for sketchbooks. I usually put a small weight (such as a heavy book or paperweight) on top of my sketchbook to keep the paper in contact with the glass while scanning.
I have an older Mac that I still use. I had an older Canon scanner that finally gave up the ghost after years of heavy use. I thought I would try to replace it with this one. I was concerned that it would not work with my older computer that has only USB 2.0 ports. I checked out the Canon site to see if this model was compatible with 2.0. It said it was, so I ordered it. My mistake. It is so PAINFULLY SLOW with 2.0 that it isn’t worth trying-I’m talking 20 minutes to scan one photo at 100%! My computer was older but has upgraded RAM and a fast processor. I have no doubt that if I had a newer computer with 3.0 ports, it would have been as great as my other Canon. I ended up getting a nearly new clone of my old model on eBay for $40, so my story has a happy ending.
There is a lock slider switch on the bottom of the scanner near the front panel. The Canon scan lite software will not recognize the scanner if this slider is in the locked position. A couple reviewers might have had this problem. Its good. Does what it claims. Working fine on a 2020 Mac Mini.Functionality is much reduced without the Scan Lite software installed. Download it from Canon support site. The software isn't much different from the previous generation CanoScan software, but it seems better.Color isn't perfect, but you might can tweak that (I don't really know, I haven't tried) Its just a pedestrian flatbed scanner. Nothing special to see here. Its less than $100 right now. We can't expect them to sell us their best tech at the lowest price point. I mean, the board of directors would be slaughtered at the next shareholder meeting if they did things like that.

This was my first scanner purchase in over 10 years. Scanners have come a long way and I was surprised by how much you get for so little money with this unit. You can get the technical specs from Amazon or the Canon website. It ships in a small box with one USB cable and start guide/CD ROM software. Instead of loading programs from the CD and having to do updates I just went right to the Canon website and looked up the latest software and drivers to make this work with my machines. I was up and running in under 5 minutes. The software is easy to use and you just drop and drag files of the newly scanned things to your drives on your machines. It works great with both windows and iOS. I also really like that no external power supply is needed. The USB cable handles and data and power in one. So far I have scanned a few paper documents and a few diagrams from books. They look fantastic and resolution can be adjusted to get really good results. For home use it is a really great value. My last scanner/printer/copier/fax in one machine was $350 in 1999. This was a pleasant surprise. BTW, if you need it just for one project then it is very easy to resell this item. I have seen used ones go on the online auction sites for $30-35. Not a bad deal at all to "rent" a new one for about $20 if you will never use it again and it will end up junked a few years from now. Oh, and it is made in Vietnam and not China; a huge plus not supporting communism.
I have been very satisfied with this scanner. It was simple to setup. Software installed very easy on Windows 7 laptop. Software is not real intuitive but after reading the manual you will be able to navigate it just fine. It powers from the USB cable which is nice. Be sure to install the PC software first BEFORE you connect the scanner to the PC. I was up and scanning in about 10 minutes.I purchased this scanner mainly for scanning about 1000 photos. I think the scanner did a great job in scanning the pictures. Great resolution. Now, here is what sold me on this product. The scanning tray is about 10x17 in size. You can put several pictures on the scanning bed and as long as you give them some space between each one the scanner will recognize then as separate pictures! I can scan 5 -6 photos at a time? I am scanning at 600 dpi and can scan 5 -6 photos in about a minute from the time I press scan to the time they are transferred to my PC.I have only scanned about 100 photos at the time of this review but I would highly recommenced this scanner.
This scanner came in a crushed box, no safety package marking.....the scanner lid is warped, the seal foam crushed...so i had to fix /jury rig that....... with a weight placed on top it does work.
