Jesus explains to us in the Sermon on the Mount that we have to choose between the blessed life and the error. The life pleasing to God or the life in God's grace is the righteous life: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", Matthew 7:12 (golden rule).
According to the gospel, those who live according to the law of the spirit receive a blessing (Luke 6:20-22) and those who follow the flesh reap curse (Luke 6:24-26). This is so because in the beatitudes there is a law of balance and learning.
Paul takes up this teaching of Jesus explaining in the letter to the Galatians the law of the harvest and the sowing:
"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:6-9.
The flesh and the spirit represent mentalities, lifestyles according to the bible. Jesus asks us to be merciful, pious like the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). The spiritual gifts bear fruit of blessing: "But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law"; Galatians 5:21-23.
Paul adds a special teaching to the law of return, good actions (golden rule, Matthew 7:12) need constancy, firmness, that is, they need the fear of God. The constancy in the word of God produces miracles, the constancy has in our lives an incremental, progressive effect, that is why it is said "progressive constancy". In other words, "the power of constancy". This is explained by Jesus in the parable of the sower in Matthew 13:1-23. The seed that falls on good soil are those people who receive wisdom, retain it, that is, keep it in mind, and put it into practice with constancy.
