Jesus after being crucified and buried, rises and goes to meet his disciples, there before ascending to heaven gives them the last instructions: "You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.", Luke 24:49
"From above", "from on high", "the perfect" in the bible represents the divine: "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.", James 1:17. Jesus promises them the full likeness to God (Gnosis), wisdom is an infused virtue. "Clothed with power from on high" means to receive the Holy Spirit. The holy spirit from Pentecost comes to represent the spiritual guide, the instructor, the doctor of the church:
"When the day of Pentecost came, they where all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Acts 2:1-4
In Pentecost a prophecy of Jesus is fulfilled: "The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.", Luke 6:40. The spiritual perfection is a way, a progressive path. Pentecost is considered the day of the birth of the Church. It is there that disciples receive the spiritual gifts necessary to proclaim the good news of the gospel: the eternal life, the wisdom, the knowledge and the gift of discernment among others.
The disciples of Jesus become the salt of the world: "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?", Matthew 5:13. The salt like the wisdom has its own flavor. Pentecost represents a descent from above of the wisdom, the spiritual salt.
