In 2017, I visited Israel, Palestina and Jordan and will share here some of my pictures from Biblical places related to our Savior Jesus Christ and some other major Biblical characters and events. Last time it was Betlehem and today, let's take a look at Jesus's home town Nazareth (or rather village in those days). The picture below shows Church of Annunciation which is largest Christian building in the Middle East.
Nazareth
- meaning: branch or shoot
- original name: Nasrath or Netser
- location: Galilea, about 100km north from Jerusalem
- importance: Hometown (village) of Yahoshua (Jesus), Joseph and Mary
- personal observations:
- quite modern town with some pretty steep streets
- really huge density of church buildings per square km
- enormous amount of garbage in certain peripheral areas
- everything in old Nazareth village was very modest and simple, synagogue included
Old Testament
Then a branch (shoot) will spring from the stem of Jesse,
And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
-- Isaiah 11:1
New Testament
And he (Joseph) arose and took the young child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee, and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he (Jesus) will be called a Nazarene.
-- Matthew 2:21
