I watched as much of today’s presidential press conference as I could stomach, well over an hour. Here are a few personal impressions from today’s press conference:
- Biden is not senile. He’s just old, slow, and boring, with very low energy.
- His old age is emphasized by the language that he uses, which is from another era. In today’s press conference, he talked about “how to put three squares on the table.” Maybe they still talk that way in Scranton, PA. Who knows?
- He talks as if Democrats stand for something while Republicans stand for nothing: “What is Mitch for? What are they for?” Yet he persists in calling them “my Republican friends.” If he had any Republican friends before today’s press conference, he probably has fewer now.
- He sounded weak, defensive, whiney, constantly engaging in lengthy explanations and justifications that didn’t really help his case. It was not at all what I expect or hope for when a president speaks to the nation.
- Even though he answered “yes and yes,” when asked if he would run for re-election and if Kamala Harris would once again be his running mate, my impression from today’s press conference is that he will not get another term in the White House, and might well be defeated in Democratic primaries by a strong competitor.
