It seems to me that official departments and agencies of the federal government’s executive branch should not issue documents and reports that blame the other branches of the federal government or the opposition political party.
A week ago, on April 27, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security posted on its website a document entitled “Fact Sheet: U.S. Government Announces Sweeping New Actions to Manage Regional Migration.”
In this document, the Biden administration asserts that:
“Since taking office, President Biden has continually called on Congress to pass legislation to update and reform our outdated immigration system. State and DHS are taking action with the tools and resources available under current law, but Congress’s failure to pass and fund the President’s plan will increase the challenge at the southwest border.”
I haven’t read many federal agency “fact sheets,” but this document strikes me as inappropriately and unwarrantedly partisan. Its attack on Congress for “Congress’s failure to pass and fund the President’s plan” reflects the point of view of the Democratic Party. In effect, the anonymous authors of the “fact sheet” attack the Republican Party, which currently holds the Speakership and a majority of the seats in the House of Representatives, where appropriations bills originate.
This Homeland Security immigration document concludes with a dire warning, finger pointing, and a complete abdication of responsibility for the border chaos that may be coming:
“…we expect the days following the end of Title 42 public health order will be challenging and that encounters will increase for a time, as smugglers will seek to spread disinformation to capitalize on this change. Through the approach described above and the work of our outstanding personnel, the Biden-Harris Administration will do everything within its authority to manage this challenge, but until and unless Congress delivers on the immigration reform measures President Biden requested on his first day in office, the United States’ immigration system will remain broken.”
