What is a “shit post”?

in bigdizzle91 •  6 years ago  (edited)

Yesterday I made a post saying that I had powered up 262 Steem to get me over the 110k mark. Moments later, while UPVOTING my commenters spreading rewards using stake that I BOUGHT, I seen a reply to a comment of a comment left by someone asking me to follow him. Here is the comment:

Being curious of how my content was considered “shit”, I had to ask what a “shit post” was. Of course I already knew what a shit post was. It’s an opinion, that’s what it is. And I knew he would answer with his opinion.

To completely respond I would’ve said “it actually took me about 2 minutes to create that post not including the time it took me to power up the Steem. It did take effort. I had to pull out my phone, go to my wallet, screenshot, go to the partiko app, type the words, and upload the photo. Also not to mention the effort it takes going through my comments and distributing rewards. And to say that me posting about how much steem power I have doesn’t provide value I have to disagree with also. I probably motivated a lot of people to buy steem power to reach their own goals which in turn brings value to the blockchain. Valuable content is in the eye of the receiver (I just made that up) . Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean someone else won’t. Why don’t you just say how you really feel which is that you wish you had this much steem power so you could earn rewards without putting in a lot of effort.” But I just said:

If you have a problem with the amount of rewards someone is getting then it says more about you. Whenever I’ve been mad about how much someone earned for a post it was always my envy and jealousy inside, that’s how I know that’s what this is. Don’t be mad just put yourself in position. I could’ve kept my bitcoin but I wanted to be a steem whale. Now I get to reap the “rewards” and spread them to my followers. Thank you to @bigdizzle91 for giving me this valuable content to post this morning.

I love the formula. You made my day !

Exactly!

Lol, so hilarious, I wonder why some people envy those that do well, why won't I reward myself when I have my steempower, why do I need to spend hours making a post! When I actually invested my money, fuck the haters...power up and stop complaining about what others do with their blog and money

This is a message that gets to be spread I think. Power up or shut up.

Power or shut up would make a great T-shirt 😂🤣

Thanks for the post @trevonjb.

A few weeks back I wrote a post about the fact that we need to get off the idea of quality posts. Like you said, it is in the eye of the beholder (or receiver) to begin with.

We are seeing a lot of applications emerging which do not focus upon quality. Instead, @dlike focuses upon what interests people. @share2steem is allowing twitter, Instagram, and youtube posts to also be shared on Steem. Has anyone looked at most of that content?

What people also do not realize is that it takes time to get a following. Even though you bought in, that did not get you thousands of followers or placed on people's autovote. That takes time, effort, and consistent posting.

You hit the nail on the head it appears. People are envious of others and have to tear them down. We see a lot of that on here.

People would be a lot more successful if they just focused upon their own accounts and growing that. Those who do tend to see their accounts grow month after month which, I presume, is the goal for many.

Keep powering up...I believe it will pay of nicely for people.

It was after reading that post that I followed you @taskmaster4450. What I have been surprised by is how "tone deff" many of the larger stake holders are and the size of the soup boxes that they stand on that are in my OP completely wrong. Which flies in the face of mass adoption.

For example: I originally got flagged by @patrice at Steem Cleaners for copy pasting my free give away title, while giving away free upvotes. The real reason was some "employyee" (with an account value around 5 SP) of steem cleaners was jealous that my post value was $100+ USD per post and complained .... jealousy. Steem cleaners is still bombing many accounts for stupid reasons.

Until this type of attitude is addressed mass adoption will be hard. Which comes back to the "shit post" mentality that these trolls are using to justify there actions and ruin steem for as many other people as they can. Why @ned and @steemit have let this go on for so long is beyond me.

Yea it took a lot of effort to get to where I can be effortless

If you've got over $90k invested in Steem, I sure as hell hope you at least make fucking $13 for a "shit post."

Lol!

I shitpost each time I power up 200 Steem 😂

I wonder whether the "quality vs rewards" discussion will ever stop on this platform (probably not). Rewards depend on votes, votes don't depend on quality.

However, it's obvious that Steemians, especially the ones with a lot of money bound in Steem, should have a natural interest in providing good content, therefore attracting more (new) users and activity and thereby helping raise the price of Steem. And their stake.

I had read your other post and also found it rather helpful, despite the "little effort" you've probably put in, because it shows that whales still buy Steem because they see it as a good investment. Even if that reduces other people's potential rewards by a tiny little bit ;-)

Congratulations on reaching 110k Steempower I’m on my way to reach 1.5K and I’m pretty happy with every Steem I have so far

The quality police are a self appointed group of self righteous steemians that let you know when your post and rewards ratio is not to their liking. They have no power, aside from their own steempower, which is usually pretty low. The best way to combat the quality police is to tell them to "shut up and buy some steempower." LOL

This is why I love the term “stake”. If you have no stake in a property, you have no say.

I completely agree with that however I do think big dogs on Steemit need to realize that if they abuse the system and the platform goes to shit, those people who aren't powerful on here but whome make up 90% of Steemians may decide fuck this platform I'm done with it and that hurts the platform, it hurts the price, it hurts the community, it hurts adoption and in turn that's going to hurt the whales as well so I think it's in everyone's best interest to try to make this a fun and interesting place to be and to help grow adoption and encourage others on the platform.

Hahahaha I enjoyed the response you have to the guy "shut up and buy some steem power". Some people on here don't just know how to mind their business. Its good thatbu also too the time to explain how tidious it was for u to power up, make the post, upload the picture and even go through ur comment section and besides, you upvoted the post with stakes you bought with ur own money so whats the guys problem?

Yea maybe after this post steem will make more sense to him

"Shut up and buy some steem power."

Haha. I love that.

Also, stop comparing yourself to others. It's one of the most important things when it comes to happiness. Compare yourself with who you were yesterday.

Why would you be upset if someone makes 100$ in a post? If anything that should motivate you because you know that it is possible. So fight and work harder and maybe one day you will be in his shoes.

Compare yourself with who you were yesterday.

To take it one step further, compare your account to where it was yesterday (or last week/month).

This is exactly what I was trying to point out. Fall in love with Steem Power and good things will come sooner or later. Power up!!!

I mean... you have to accept that you will have haters forever. But get yah money son.

Oh trust me I accept it. But I wanted to get this message out.

So many people, so many opinions...:)...

Lol

Posted using Partiko iOS

You can't be nice to everyone....:)...

To be honest if it irks him that much, why doesn’t he just focus on what he’s making rather than what others are making.

Instead of trying to bring you down to his level, he should be thinking of ways to bring himself up to your level.

Love the response lol, some people need to realise that not all things are in their control.

I would say 90% of Steemians are nobodys not making shit, myeslf included. If the big dogs on here abuse the platform, put out shitty content, rape and pillage using their steem power, eventually maybe all the little guys like us say fuck this place and leave and then the big dogs are fucked and steem price tanks so its in everyone's interest to make this a fun and interesting place to be and continue to grow adoption

I’d ignore them, to have that kind of voting power must take a lot of investment and there’s nothing wrong with getting a return. Cheers mike

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thats is redicilous and Funny as well.
I think you shouldn't answer this kind of comments because they don't add any value except headache.
Keep it Up

A shit post is obviously very subjective, however I think it's important to note just because a topic isn't something that interests you or I doesn't make it a shit post, I think it more has to do with the effort, but again that is also subjective. I could put up a great photos that I'm really proud of and which people enjoy. It probably only took me 30 seconds to take the shot and post it, but if there's some thought behind it I think that's cool

That said if soemone takes a half ass photo of a subject matter that isn't interesting, doesn't take time to frame the shot well, basically I just pulled my phone out of my pocket and took a pic of a box of raisin brand and said I like cereal, yeah that's probably a shit post.

I think long form content generally is better quality, I think mixed media ie video, writing and photo takes more effort and should be rewarded.

I don't think we can quantify what a shitpost is but most of us know it when we see it.

I see a lot of people who will post a screenshot of coinmarketcap everyday and that's there content. WHile that is curating, I feel like something like that is a shitpost unless someone adds some commentary to it. I think just posting a Youtube video with no commentary is a shit post. If you comment a couple sentences about why you posted it, what it's about and why you liked it or think people will enjoy it I think that's fine.

Anyhow, that's my definition of a shitpost.

It wasnt a shitpost, I learned that Steem was about to get added to netcoins thanks to your post. Just because a post isnt useful for you, it doesn't mean it's not useful for someone.

Also a good rule of thumb in life for the person that complained yesterday: If you have nothing nice to say, sometimes it's better to not say anything.

Something to ponder about @trevonjb
Although it is just a matter of objectivity on what a shitpost is, sometimes if you are a whale your shitpost no longer matters.

Well, I believe being a whale and upvoting your own posts isn't a bad thing in itself... Even if the post isn't that much of quality as long as people think it's worth it then I'll say that too.

Being a whale doesn't come in one day, the effort to reach that level of SP should be considered too when judging if the post is $#!&ty or not.

Yo @trevonjb hit me with an upvote if you think my comment is shit!

I used to be a quality evangelist. But I finally noticed that, quality or not, the rewards don't even depends on it. You can do shit or quality, that's the same. The main effort is not in making "quality", it's in understanding that focusing on quality and wanting Steem to go mainstream and "to the moon" are just incompatible.

Steem is not an elite thing. Definitely.

Why do you say quality and going to the moon are not compatible? In my mind they go hand in hand. If this is a shitty platform with shitty content its bad for adoption, its bad for people spending time here and actually enjoying it. Attention is the currency of the internet and if we want steemit to grow adoption and if we want steem to grow in price this has to be a place where non crypto heads actually enjoy comming to consume content.

While I love this place I'll be the first to admit that ALOT of the content is shit, alot of stuff on here isn't that interesting. I can find myself getting lost in time on Reddit or youtube. I love those platforms and I can sit down watch one video and find 6 hours has been passed and I've gone down a wormhole watching video after video. I don't find myself doing that on Steemit. I find myself comming here to act like a human bot and play the steemit game of trying to grow my account and followers and make money. Don't get me wrong I have some great friends on here and a handful of people I follow and really enjoy their conetnt but if I had to sit here adn sort thorugh new or trending to find stuff that interested me I'd want to shoot myself in the head.

Steemit is interesting, we call it a community and a social media site but its not, its a blogging platform, there's no messaging, there's no groups, there's no niche communities. There's no way I can message you to chat aside from commenting completely unrelated on yoru most recent video.

Another interesting thing is while the platform itself is a blogging platform, quality blogging isn't rewarded, this is more of a networking site, yet that's not how it's constructed. It would be like Medium or Blogger trying to be like Facebook when that's not what the platform or the UI is setup to be.

Steemit has a horrible record of maintaining new adoptees and keeping them on the platform. I think that's partly because we bring some people over here telling them they can earn money blogging and people come here and find out 99% of them won't make shit. It's also however because it's just not as entertaining a place to be as Reddit, Youtube, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.

I love this place but I also recognize it's shortfalls and I personally see us going downhill and getting worse instead of better

The second most popular tag is photography. And sometimes, a single photography post, with no words or only few can take more time to achieve than a fully detailed article. But if this does not have a 500 words texts, is it bad content ?
I'd even say you can obtain a stunning picture in no time, if you're lucky. Would it be bad content ?
The rule is there's no rule. Quality is in the eye of the one who is looking, and not all the people have the same quality standards.
You cannot build a community on something subjective. Steemit shows content. God, bad, but content.

To me, Steem will go to the moon if it goes mainstream. And it cannot be achieved by selecting only "the better posts". I speak for french community, who focuses mainly on "quality". The result is people come, make good content which is not rewarded as it deserves, and when they see shitposts get high rewards, they are discouraged and stop posting, or start making shit posts too. The last consequence is they try to follow some high quality standards, and when they are not inspired anymore, they just leave.

At this time the french community is represented by few people who managed to get noticed or some Steem early adopters. From people who registered inthe same time than me, lots of them are gone, but they used to write some good posts. But circle voting and things like this made they finally go...

I used myself to write what I would call good articles. Some posts that took me time to write. All the rewards I get are finally only auto-voting. Why should I care about quality if I get the same rewards by posting a shitty meme ?

We must be honest with ourselves : rewards do not reflect quality, it never did and it never will. That's why we must stop focusing on quality. Being too demanding on quality goes against our will to make Steem (and not only Steemit) great.

When you say it's a blogging platform, I'd say yes for Steemit. But Steemit is not the only app using the Steem blockchain. As @taskmaster4450 said, there are many dapps which cannot focus on quality. And most dapps are not blogging platforms. Steemit is not Steem.

That's why I do not talk about Steemit anymore, but about Steem.

The guy is a really funny guy. Steemit is a social media blogging site, and social media is were people come to feel free, so people should post what ever they like, freely on steemit. Beside am motivated to keep going on steemit for the long haul since I see you powering up @trevonjb.

Hater gonna HATE!!!

That fools name is bigdizzle............ immediately disregard everything he says.......where I come from minding our business is key to survival.

You write shitposts, having a problem with people making profit off something shit doesnt say anything bad about me, it says more about your sheepish followers who will do and say anything to appease a whale in the hopes of making a dollar.
Go back to scamming people with Bitconnect, Youre actually a shit person ahahahaha
