For those who travel to the south of France, Tomorrowland or just their own garden this summer, the scientific magazine Current Biology has good news. The Cell researchers have discovered the perfect method to ban mosquitoes from your tent, room or garden once and for all. You only need two things according to them: a hand and your own body odor.

From lavender to ointments and lamps, nothing helps to avoid the buzzing mosquitoes and their irritating bites in the summer. Research from the scientific magazine 'Current Biology' now shows that the only effective way to keep mosquitoes away is simply your own body odor.

According to Current Biology mosquitoes have an exceptionally good memory, which allows them to store body odors for a long time. The perfect method to avoid an irritating mosquito is simply to hit it. The mosquito will associate the battle with the body odor in question and bother another person at the next bite. That's what the Cell researchers found during a trial.

During the research, the scientists exposed the mosquitoes to a certain body odor and in the meantime created shocks and vibrations. Because of their special memory the mosquitoes could make a connection between the aggressive stimuli and the body odor with which these stimuli were observed.

In the subsequent test, the mosquitoes deliberately opted for a different body odor. From this, the researchers were able to deduce that playing wildly during a sleepless night is indeed useful: "Slapping once and the mosquito is twice as frightened".
