In Germany there is every year an election of the "Bird of the Year". This year the European Robin has won the vote of this years election. Because the robin is one of the birds that really comes close to you and is always very interested in us as well it is categorized as not a really shy bird. It produces a lot of sympathy in a lot of people, and this is probably the reason it won this election this year. It is also one of the most well known birds here in Europe. Most of the grown up population here in Europe knows this bird and even a lot of children know this bird because of its cuteness.
Yesterday I was able to take several pictures of this bird along with some other interesting birds. I was able to shoot pictures of a tree creeper, a waterrail, a buteo, a White-tailed eagle and several ducks and waterbirds. But still the robin redbreast is one of the cutest birds I think.

Another thing that makes this bird so popular here in Austria and Germany is that it can be seen the whole year round. Especially when you do garden work it can wait nearby and picks up the insects and small worms that you provide her by digging up the soil. A lot of people who do garden work can see this bird more often than others. This is one of the behaviors that make this bird so popular here. It is also a species that you can hear singing the whole day. Some of them sing during the morning, others in the evening.
