Tūī (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) • Tiritiri Matangi Island, New Zealand

in birds •  6 years ago  (edited)

“The bird I came to associate most with New Zealand after my monthlong stay was the unmistakable tui and its iridescent coat and fancy white ruff. Prevalent in protected areas, their bird call is the most unique I’ve personally heard in the wild. At times they can almost sound electronic, as if they themselves provided the voice of R2-D2 in Star Wars.”
