The white-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos)
This species of woodpeckers is larger than the Great Spotted Woodpecker, but is much less common. In the summer I don’t see them at all, obviously the range of their habitat is completely different. And only with the advent of autumn, they begin to appear in the forests, by the way, along with other species of woodpeckers, which also fly away far from civilization.
This species of woodpeckers prefers to live precisely in cluttered forests that are not landscaped for humans. Where there are fallen trees, with rotting and dead trunks. In these rotten trees, he is looking for his favorite treat - the larvae of the bark beetle.
Therefore, they can often be seen on the lower tier of forests, where they are looking for these beetles.
In these photos, you can see just this case. The old fallen birch, where this female (pay attention to the head, there is no long red hat on it) carefully examined the bark, and grumbled periodically.
The bird is not timid, if you behave quietly, it will cease to pay attention to you and will go about its business.

Так внимательно эта птичка всё рассматривает. Наверное она занята добыванием пищи и не отвлекается по сторонам.
