Hi friend Steemit,
Bank Indonesia (BI) still forbid the use of digital currency (cryptocurrency) as a means of payment. However, BI did not close the eyes of the increasingly widespread cryptocurrency. Therefore, BI admitted will also take advantage of the presence of blockchain technology that became the basic technology of the operation of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.
With this technology, then did not rule out the physical currency of rupiah that circulated BI over the years, turning into digital. According to Assistant Deputy Executive Director of the Department of Payment System of Bank Indonesia (BI) Susiati Dewi, digital currency technology began to be tested BI this year.
The goal is for the industrial efficiency of the payment system. "At one time, maybe the physical money that we circulated to digital is now not all countries in the world have yet to release," said Susi during a visit to editorial office KONTAN, Friday (26/1).

According to Susi, the trial and study of the use of virtual currency is not only done by BI alone, but also by central banks of other countries. Future targets, between central banks and countries can transact using crypto money that is recognized by all authorities.
However, the virtual currency of BI and other central banks will be different from the current crypto currency. Because the digital currency released by the central bank will still have assets that are the basis of the transaction. Susi also said, the pattern of calculation of the circulation of digital currency will also be adjusted to the current conditions.
According to Susi, the Singapore Central Bank was the first to apply the technology to the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system. But unfortunately, "They say the technology is still not stable," he said.
BI notes, currently there are 1,490 cryptocurrencies that grow in the world, including bitcoin. Bitcoin became the most famous digital currency because of its greatest market value in the world.
Bank Permata economist Josua Pardede supports the central bank's move. Because blockchain technology is not something forbidden. Because private virtual currency is not allowed.
If BI will issue digital money, it needs to pay attention to a number of things, especially the impact to the Indonesian economy. "Whether raising inflation or making the economy more efficient," he said.

More importantly, BI needs to monitor and ensure the safety of its circulation. BI also needs to educate the public. Do not bring up a new mode of theft and money laundering.
