Let's understand UASF and BIP148 and why you should start signaling if you are not

So, UASF, right. It stands for User Activated Soft Fork. So, it is a Soft Fork that will happen if Users Activate it. OK? Let's get into the concepts.

BIP148

A BIP is a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal. Since Bitcoin is open sourced code and this code resides on GitHub Repository, any human being or a group represented by an account on github can write a so-called BIP which bears the code representing that change proposed.

BIP 148 is a UASF and proposes the following: until August 1st, 2017, miners are required to signal for SegWit by setting the version number of blocks mined. This is done by a bit signal and means miners are ready to soft fork for SegWit. On August 1st, nodes that do this will reject any block from miners that are not signaling for SegWit.

Chain Split

This UASF will cause non-ready SegWit nodes to be left away from the main chain, a process known as chain split. This is temporary if the node then upgrades to ready for SegWit nodes or permanent if by the time SegWit locks in they haven't yet do this proceedure.

Major Support

bitworkers and many companies such as Bitfury, BitPay, Bitvest, CoinGate, Coinomi, Electrum, Microsoft, Samourai Wallet, Satoshi Portal, Trezor, Ledger and many others are supporting and signaling for UASF BIP148. It is important that at least 51% of the network does until August 1st, 2017. We urge you to do your part.

How to Support and Signal

  • If your full node runs on linux, run the following command in your command terminal:
echo "uacomment=UASF-SegWit-BIP148" >> ~/.bitcoin/bitcoin.conf && bitcoin-cli stop && sleep 5 && bitcoind
  • If your full node runs on Windows open the Bitcoin Properties window and click on the Shortcut tab and paste the following line in Target:
"bitcoin-qt.exe" -uacomment=UASF-SegWit-BIP148

Do it! Cheers!!!

Yes! I fully support UASF because it means they and the SegWit supporters will fork off into their own little chain, and we will finally have bigger blocks!

This is excellent to know @emeraldhorse!! Resteem to spread the word if you will :D

I love the smell of Sybil attacks in the morning.

Congratulations for thinking the way you want! This is a professional profile and we respect your opinion. What we believe though is that UASF will prevail.
Cheers,

Thanks @bitcoinworker for your break down but Please i would like for someone to explain these for me in a more simplfied way. What are the two possibilities segwit and usaf?
