IMF Head Wants To Use Blockchain To Regulate Bitcoin

in bitcoin •  7 years ago

The head of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, has called for a crackdown on bitcoin before it's too late.

She says that authorities need to try and fight fire with fire by using the technology behind the cryptocurrency to try and regulate and crackdown on it.

Lagarde warned that failing to crackdown on bitcoin would result in criminals seeking to use cryptocurrency for nefarious purposes.

Authorities have frequently warned about the potential for criminals to use cryptocurrency, but we also know that criminals have been using the US dollar (and other means) to fund their crimes for decades. And at this point in time, the US dollar is still regarded as the most misused currency. Even reputable banks, such as HSBC, have been found guilty of laundering money for criminals. Yet the banks and the US dollar didn't become branded as only tools for criminals to use.

Lagarde and others have been rather aggressive in trying to portray cryptocurrency as just "currency for criminals." Trying to fuel the notion that one should be suspicious when they come across someone using or talking about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Lagarde said recently in a post for the IMF, that the innovations behind bitcoin can be used to regulate it.

“We can harness the potential of crypto-assets while ensuring that they never become a haven for illegal activity or a source of financial vulnerability.”

“It would not be wise to dismiss crypto-assets; we must welcome their potential but also recognize their risks,”

Lagarde also warned that it was imperative for countries to work together to try and achieve the goal of cracking down on bitcoin. Cryptocurrencies have no borders she says, and so for this reason she said it will take a global effort to regulate.

What we need is to use blockchain technology to regulate the out-of-control EU bureaucrats.

I smell fear.

Maybe she could try to regulate The US $100 bill.
Because it is the "currency of criminals."
The money being laundered is soooo huge, that all of the worlds biggest banks have been fined for laundering.

Maybe she could call on banks to regulate that.

Regulate in whose interest, the goverment or for the people?

“...before it’s too late...” That is adorable. LOL. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!

Never ending battles...

Thanks for sharing this 👍

First they ignored it,now they are fighting it,then we will win...

The fight against and in favor of Bitcoin is getting more and more interesting, every day many organizations join in favor and against criptomoendas, we know that all these ads the only thing that is achieved is important changes in the price of virtual currencies, We will have to be cautious in the investments until we see who from the sides come to commit their duties.
thank you very much dear friend @doitvoluntarily for sharing this information

It's a tough one🤔

This kinds of people are the ones I hate they most. Not only they're stupid, their hypocrisy way beyond the limit. USD and any other currencies we're using today can be used for criminal purposes can't they see that and yet when new tech arrives, they brand it immediately as a potential criminal tool. Why these f*** people are the one who's running the authorities? It's pure BS.

Global effort...wow.
Joy

OMG!!! 🤦

Alright, 'splain me this, Lagarde:

How tf do you propose to do that?
