Seems like spring is bringing a lot of good news for the crypto universe: not only are we witnessing a slow but steady uptrend across the entire market, but news about new services are starting to pour in.
According to an email sent to their card holders, Wirex, a Bitcoin debit card provider, announced that they are re-enabling direct buying of Bitcoin with credit cards, something which was stopped until now, for a few good months.
Here's an excerpt from the message:
From today you no longer have to make international bank transfers to buy bitcoin — or use expensive card transaction services.
We have now re-enabled our buy bitcoin feature using any 3D-secured debit or credit card (up to €500 per day!).
Simply attach your card to your account inside the app and you can fund your Wirex account for instant conversion to bitcoin at any time.
It's an interesting development, which tells that major credit card companies are turning around and start to quietly approve (some) crypto processors.
If you want to open an account with Wirex, you can do it here, it's completely free, but since this is an affiliate link, I will make a small commission if you sign up. Just so you know it :)

Hmmmm...mixed feelings on this news.
It's good that people have more options to buy crypto, and that we can potentially get in without large fees, but...
Buying crypto with CREDIT cards is an incredibly bad idea. Please don't do this. If you can't afford to buy crypto with money you actually have, and still be comfortable after you've bought it, don't do it. Don't go into debt to buy in.
I dread to think what situation some of the people who re-mortgaged their houses towards the end of 2017 are in. They were buying in at 16k, 17k a bitcoin. They must be praying daily that Bitcoin recovers, and FAST.
Never put yourself in a position, with any investment, where you can't afford (at least in the short, to medium term), for that investment to not pay off.
"Only invest what you can afford to lose" is good advice. Listen to it.

Very good point and I'm 100% with you on this one, but if you look carefully at their message it says "using any 3D-secured debit or credit card".
So I think we're good.
LE: I updated the title of my post too.

Yeah, I'd spotted the debit card news too, but it's the credit card which most caught my attention.
There are people who have the disposable money, but use their credit card out of convenience, but can pay it back on their next statement - and that's all good. But there are also those who can't afford it, and assume (or hope) we're about to enter another strong bull run (fingers crossed). They're the ones who're at risk.
Thanks for the post & good information :)

Do you already have an account? I heard Visa and Mastercard had bans on crypto buying?

No, at least no in my country. We still buy bitcoin with Mastercard through Luno.

Interesting. I saved that site to my favorites. Hopefully it works in the USA. I wish it had a desktop option. I upvoted your last blog post since my solo upvote doesn't count.

You can have a virtual one (USD, EUR or GBP) for free and just subscribe to the waiting list for getting a plastic one. I did this and I think I'm somewhere at 8000-ish position.

Hi dragosroua,
Wirex does not allow U.S. citizens to open account nor issue this debit card.
Do you know other companies will allow use the debit card to purchase Bitcoin like a visa card transaction?

Is the fee for conversion from BTC to fiat in addition to currency exchange fees?
Unless you are obsessed with anonymity, it might be easier to use an exchange which charges about 0.25% to convert from btc to fiat, and minimal fees for withdrawing to your bank where you can spend it on your normal debit card.
These bitcoin card providers need to lower their fees considerably to make them attractive.

As long as fiat remain as top gateway to spending crytocurrency profits, anonymity is a dream.
