As suggested a few days ago, Coinbase rolled out support for SegWit today, according to a blog post on Medium.
SegWit enables lower transaction fees for Bitcoin and, most importantly, it opens the way to more improvements, like Lightning Network (or "off-chain" transactions).
It's interesting to note that Coinbase warned their customers not to send Bitcoin Cash to SegWit enabled Bitcoin address, as this will result in loss of funds.
The announcement has 2 other major points, in my opinion:
- the fact that Coinbase officially announced plans for Lightning Network
- the fact that they have a full time engineer working on Open Source Bitcoin projects (most likely including Lightning Network)
The markets continue to be dormant and not much reaction have been observed so far after this news.

The market is quiet about that news, there has not been any visible change. But that might change later on. The fact that the transaction fee is lower is a big plus

No matter how much some people bash Coinbase, this is still great news for Bitcoin as a whole, and it will encourage further adoption. Thanks for the share @dragosroua

Since coinbase is not available in my country, i may not be able to benefit from it directly. Indirectly it definitely benefits me as it reduces the load on Mempool helping me and others transact fast on the bitcoin blockchain.
