Sold My Bitcoin (Gambling and Poker)

Ah well, it was only a $240 sell.

Up $40 on the trade.

I watch Coinbase volume in real time, and normally when I see this kind of volatility, a correction downward is imminent. However, I'm buying back in with a limit order at $7636. I don't have much faith it will fall far.

Summer is coming.

I'm starting to think this is what we should tell anyone who asks us about crypto: Buy in for a tiny amount and try your hand at swing trading. New crypto users need to know just how bad they are at this over a sustained period of time. The market capitalizes on their ignorance and emotions at every turn. The traditional market is rigged this way and crypto is even worse because the volatility and resulting emotions are much stronger. Let's not forget the unregulated Wild West of it all.

Going on tilt.

I feel uniquely suited to be in the crypto market because of my experiences playing Texas Holdem poker. Who knows what it's like to work for 8 hours and lose $400? I do! It is the worst. It stresses me out so much that I come from an extremely conservative play style: weak/tight.

A weak tight player is someone who enters very few hands. He might have a VPIP (voluntary put in pot) of 10-15%. This means anyone who identifies a weak-tight player can put them on a hand much easier.

In addition to only playing premium hands, a weak/tight player will call with his marginal hands and raise with his premium hands, limiting their range even further.

For example, if you saw me raise from early position, you might know that I only do that with AK AQ AA KK QQ and JJ. Right off the bat, you have a really good idea about exactly what I have and can act accordingly.

The economy at large is surprisingly similar. Veterans of the market have a way of manipulating it to their advantage. Weak hands always get squeezed.

Trust me, by the time this bull run has ended (Dec 2020 or Dec 2021) people are going to have a lot of questions for you. Just think about how far ahead of the game you are compared to the average person. Remember the fear of that first time you transferred Bitcoin and you weren't totally sure if you had foolishly lost it or not? Most people have never experienced blockchain in it's raw form.

It's going to be worse than the Internet because it is money.

Remember the frustrations of the 1990's?
It could take days to download a movie.
I remember sometimes if your connection got broken the file wouldn't be saved and you'd have to start all over again.
There are still people out there who don't know how to use email.

Now take all those problems and add money to the mix. Now ignorance could cost you your livelihood. Many many more will be disillusioned before this is all over. In fact, it's really barely begun.

In the time it took me to write this,
Bitcoin crashed from $8088 to $7857.

Get ready for a crazy trading day.

I flag trash. You have received a flag.

There are still people out there who don't know how to use email.

Hell, there are still people out there who’ve never made a phone call.

It’s certainly going to be interesting! I just sold my first little bit of bitcoin since buying it, hoping the price tanks back down and I’ll buy up a bit.
Hopefully can do this a few times and gain some better traction!

I had to try the transaction like 5 times before it would post, the price kept changing on me lol

Good times ahead :)

A pullback will be healthy but I hesitate to trade as the volatility could work against you as many times you may miss out on the majority of the returns by missing a day or two!

I hear you. Fortunately I was only out of the market for an hour.

I like to hear you stick with a conservative trading style. Im not very good at trading so I generally stay away. I have 900 liquid steem that I would like to earn wit but I always guess wrong. I generally just stick with earning steem and playing it safe. I do worry that steem is lagging too far behind. I may sell that liquid if steem doubles this summer.

In my opinion, it's all about learning fundamentals first. Most players start out loose/aggressive; pure gambling mentality; win big / lose big. Emotions run wild. This is really the opposite of what you want.

For some reason this stuff just never stuck with me. I'm not a left brain mass guy for sure. But I'm smart enough to know not to play or I don't know the rules lol. I've done okay on the advice of some very close friends that are way into crypto. I actually started mining Bitcoin in 2013 so I should really know my stuff but it just doesn't resonate with me

Somewhat related do you play for fun at lucksacks ? I just signed on and while free rolls and online generators that love to randomly force action ain’t the real thing it does scratch an itch.

I tried to sign up once way back in the day and got denied.
I'm still holding out for decentralized zero-rake poker.
Basically an extension of home games.

Also, for me, poker isn't fun.
It's a job.
The way I play is a total grind.

Lol, I feel ya.. I played for a job many years during the full tilt pokerstars days.. When I wasn't online I was at home games and dens.. Sprinkled with sports betting..

Denied?!? That's crazy ?

I played an extension home game that rakes and the action was insane.. I had nuts full houses beat by quads twice in under 100 hands n decided to gtfo!

Not to say crazy shit cant happen, but IME which is vast my most memorable hands like a royal flush, straight flush didn't always occur at opportune times. This random card crap never failed to lure me and everyone into a black hole of I have to call that bet disasters...

Decentralised no rake poker would be life changing...

It's coming. An ERC-20 project has already figured out how to shuffle a poker deck using sharded keys. First time that random numbers have ever been secured by decentralized encryption... the applications are huge for gaming.
