We have only two major players. Bitcoin core which are the developers from north america and bitcoin unlimited which are the miners from Asia. the both are the ones fighting for ego and control. Triggering two original proposal BIP 148 and sewit2x
So even if there would be a split it will be only two chain for the two major players bitcoin core north America region and bitcoin unlimited Asia region. But of course there will be no likely split as BIP91 ( bitcoin improvement proposal91) is uniting THE BOTH OF THEM.
