Bitcoin a succes or disaster will it die out?

so from what i have read is that there are a couple of problems among the bitcoin community for instance

there is a problem concering around the 1mb size witch they want to increase to 2mb

there are many ideas on how to fix this problem.

but what my concern is is that the bitcoin could potentialy split in 2

and what will happen then?
