The free wifi that was offered to customers by Starbucks at Buenos Aires was caught mining Monero by using laptops connected to its wifi. The whole thing was discovered by Noah Dinkins, CEO of Stensul.

Before connecting to wifi, a script would mine Monero on user's laptop for ten seconds. This script called CoinHive is coded using javascript and was recently used by PirateBay as a test to look for new ways to earn revenue and reduce ads on their website.

According to the security expert Willem de Groot, he discovered that hackers injected CoinHive code into 2,496 different unsuspecting website which particularly included e-commerce websites.
