Chinese students were kidnapped in Sydney and asked for a ransom in Bitcoin. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded.

On August 27, 2019, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang hosted a regular press conference.

Q: It is reported that a 20-year-old Chinese student was kidnapped in Sydney last week. The kidnapper asked his family to pay a ransom in Bitcoin. Can China confirm that? How do you respond to this?

Geng Shuang, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: I don't know what you said. I can help you understand it after the meeting.
