Someone bought the second in-game Star Trek-themed space ship for the game Crypto Space Commander for $30.807. That's double the amount from the first Star Trek auction for the space game. The new anonymous owner will be able to fly in the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, just like Jean-Luc Picard did in the famous television series.
Game developer Lucid Sight is doing multiple Dutch auctions this month. With a Dutch auction the price of an item will start high. Over time the price will drop until a buyer jumps in and pays up. Every ship will start at a price of $200.000.
In the coming weeks four more space ships will be auctioned. The highlight will probably be the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656 that goes on sale on September 26th. Each of these ships has a special ability. The Voyager will be able to activate Ablative Armor, while the Enterprise is equipped with Phaser technology.
Besides the six space ship auctions gamers can buy Star Trek supply crates. These give players a chance to win one of the space ships at random, and guarantee players at least four random themed modules for their space ship. Each supply crate costs around 25 dollars. Gamers need to hurry, because supply is limited: only 4750 boxes left.
The inevitable rise of blockchain games
We can say without a doubt that blockchain gaming will carve out its own niche in the gaming industry. It might even take over a big portion of traditional gaming. Elements of ownership are an important aspect of blockchain games. At the same time we see a great number of companies showing interest in blockchain games.
Within the traditional gaming industry companies like Square Enix and Unity have expressed their interest in the crypto space. Ubisoft is even an important member of the Blockchain Game Alliance. The company is rumored to have developed at least a couple of experimental dApps on the Ethereum blockchain.
There are multiple blockchain startups already building tools to make it easier for developers to move towards the blockchain. Ark, Enjin and Playkey are just a few examples. At the same time there’s a trend of blockchain games being launched on traditional platforms. CSC can now be bought on Steam, while game engine developer Unity is building an SDK for blockchain games. Turn-based strategy-game Plague Hunters has blockchain-powered elements and should be coming to the Playstation 4 as well.
