in bitcoin •  5 years ago

Within a week The Sandbox has sold 5 percent of its total land supply, which equals 6192 lands. This has generated roughly 185 thousand dollars in revenue. Studio boss Sebastien Borget reacted excited on the success of this second land sale. "A big thank you to everyone for your support. Let's build together an amazing blockchain virtual world", he posted on Twitter over the weekend.

Investors and gamers who are interested in buying land can do so on OpenSea or wait for the next land sale to start in the coming months. The team behind The Sandbox originally had plans to do five land sales, which means the studio needs to schedule three more sales.

The development team is working on all kinds of features for The Sandbox. For example creative types can build voxel models in VoxEdit, which is already available. In addition users can import these models into The Sandbox Game Builder, which allows them to build on their land and create gameplay. At the same time the developers are working on third person camera's, among other things.

Virtual land rush

In the past two weeks there has been an incredible push towards virtual land. This week Decentraland will open its doors to the public on February 20th, allowing anybody to visit all kinds of creations but the community.

This prospect created an incredible demand. In the past seven days over 585 thousand dollars worth of virtual land traded hands. That's more value than the total traded amount of the rest of the top ten combined. This list includes games like Gods Unchained and Cryptokitties, but also artistic marketplaces like Superrare.

Creating digital value

Virtual land in these digital world can be owned by players themselves. They are free to build whatever they want, and to monetize whatever they want. As a result this free digital market will attract both hobbyists and business opportunists. User generated content is getting a new meaning, as ownership will break users free from the traditional ‘consumer role’. No longer are players merely consumers, but they are contributors to a virtual world in which creation and contribution has real value.

Player governance is something that will grow in the years to come. As development continues, player will be able to even get a say in the future of these worlds. Just like people get to vote for a government in real life. In addition some people will have their job inside Decentraland or The Sandbox, while others extend their job into these virtual worlds.
