Gamers who buy a Knight Story supporter's badge can upgrade this item by combining it with other badges. The digital asset will give the owner a bonus on in-game purchases. It's probably one of the first player-owned game assets that can be upgraded. Game studio Biscuit Labs clarified that gamers can still sell their badge if they want to get rid of it.
One badge gives its owner two percent bonus on the purchase of the in-game currency. To level 1 badges can be synthesizes into a level 2 badge, doubling the bonus a player receives. The highest bonus level is level 7, giving players 128% bonus on the in-game currency.
On top of all the economic benefit, the badge also serves an in-game purpose. It's a shield which adds 110 hit points, 36 defense and 36 luck to the player's character. One badge costs 0.05 ETH, which is currently $9.12.
Changing and upgrading NFTs
Player-owned digital assets are stored on the blockchain. As a result one item is always tied to one owner. To upgrade a digital item in for example Knight Story is something that's not often seen. However, there are ways to get certain things done. How upgrading the Knight Story supporter's badge works exactly is not yet known, but in recent month we've seen a couple of other initiatives that allow players to change their assets.
For example, Alterverse Inc. has created a piece of software that allows players to change the colors of in-game items, like skins and even space ships. Of course they can only change items they actually own. It's likely that the coloring of in-game assets is determined through the game software and not saved on the blockchain.
In addition Gods Unchained will allow players to combine player-owned cards and evolve them into a new item. How the burning of these player-owned cards works exactly, has not been explained yet. Likely these assets are moved to a so-called 'burn address' and players will automatically receive the new item on their blockchain address. A 'burn address' is a blockchain wallet that can never be accessed. It's often used to remove tokens from the economy, making the existing tokens more scarce.
Knight Story recently announced
Biscuit Labs upcoming game Knight Story was recently announced. The game is a spin-off from EOS Knights, which was running on the EOS blockchain. With Knight Story the game studio takes another approach, as it's embracing a variety of blockchains including Tron, Ethereum and presumably Klaytn.
Knight Story is an Idle RPG in which players need to level up their characters, gain items, and have their heroes fight monsters. The game will launch in December 2019 on iOS and Android devices.
