Since gaining popularity in 2011, Bitcoin has been adopted by thousands of big and small businesses worldwide. In countries like Japan and Australia bitcoin is even treated as money legally. But one of the largest online retail store in the world does not accept bitcoin yet.
Cryptocurrency enthusiasts want to change that and want Amazon to start accepting payments. They have started a petition on popular petitioning site change.org
Here are some of the arguments made in the petition -
- Bitcoin Offers:
- Low transaction costs
- Decentralized currency
- Low Inflation (Because of the finite supply of Bitcoins (this mostly benefits the consumer))
- Bitcoin is accessible to any person of any age, sex, demographic, etc. (it is extremely advantageous to citizens of crisis countries)
- Non-reversible payments (Extremely beneficial to reputable companies such as Amazon.com)
- Bitcoins are extremely secure (Bitcoins reside in an encrypted format on the wallet they are kept in)

Will Amazon finally start accepting payments in bitcoin? It is hard to say, but if it does, it will be a tremendous success for bitcoin and it will surely have positive impact on it's price.
