Senate Crypto hearing today: What happened?

in bitcoin •  5 years ago

Today the committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs held a hearing on “Examining Regulatory Frameworks for Digital Currencies and Blockchain.”

They talked about government role in money, suspicion of the tech sector, and what they see in cryptocurrency's future.
As always, there was some good, bad, and ugly. I go over the highlights of the hearing.

The witnesses included:
Mr. Jeremy Allaire, Co-Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Circle, on behalf of The Blockchain Association
Dr. Rebecca M. Nelson, Specialist in International Trade and Finance, Congressional Research Service
Professor Mehrsa Baradaran, Professor of Law, University of California, Irvine School of Law.

You can tell they're scared for their traditional system! But good to see some open mindedness too. A mixed bag for sure but exposure is exposure!
