Last year, the Turkish authorities were quite skeptical about cryptocurrency. The Ministry used to consider this technology nothing but another pyramid created to take ordinary people’s money for their own.

However, now the party of the nationalist movement of Turkey offers not to give up on cryptocurrency. MHP believes that the country should develop legislation that regulates and controls the market.

The deputy chairman of the MHP and former minister of industry, Ahmet Kenan Tanrikulu, drew up a detailed report on this issue, proposing the creation of a state-run cryptocurrency called Turkcoin.

Tanrikulu believes that neglecting such a useful technology would be a serious mistake:

“The world is advancing toward a new digital system. Turkey should create its own digital system and currency before it’s too late,” — said Tanrikulu to Al-Monitor publishing.

The politician also stresses that despite the absence of legal basis, cryptocurrencies are already used in Turkey, which is why:

“The need for regulation is obvious. Also, the use of those currencies in illegal activities must be prevented” he said.

Although the technical aspects of the future cryptocurrency are covered in secrecy, it is still known that the main task of Turkcoin is to tokenize the securities backed by real assets, thereby reducing the risks associated with digital money.

In his report, Tanrikulu, among other things, says that the assets should be created on the basis of large public companies of the country, including Turkish Airlines, Istanbul Stock Exchange and Turk Telekom.
