RON PAUL: "PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE THE CURRENCY THEY USE"

Ron Paul is known for his outspokenness. For this former White House candidate, " the true forgers are at the Federal Reserve ". Even if he does not say he is in favor of crypto-currencies (as they are not " palpable "), he thinks that they should be able to be freely used.

While the dollar imposes what it perceives as a " monopoly ", the libertarian Ron Paul believes that citizens should be free to use the currency they want - and this also applies to cryptocurrencies.

This former congressman told CNN a few days ago that he had in the past once proposed a law aimed at introducing monetary competition .

"I hate this system"
Numerous figures in finance have repeatedly criticized digital currencies - foremost among which is Bitcoin. And the qualifiers did not miss: speculative bubble , Ponzi pyramid , asset privileged by the terrorists , ...

Ron Paul, for his part, believes that it is rather the current monetary system which one should be wary of .

"I hate the system we rely on. The real forgers are at the Federal Reserve. This is a mistake and a major problem. People should have the right to choose the currency they use. That's what they did when the money came out. They then turned to gold or silver. And the government took the lead, corrupted this tool and monopolized it. And he has thus managed, in this country, to destroy it. "

The politician, now retired, is in favor of legalizing alternative currencies (which can be issued for example by private companies) - provided that they are not used as a pretext to encourage the conduct of illegal activities .

"Not palpable"
The former member of the Republican Party regrets the time of the gold standard. Abandoned in 1971, it allowed to back the coin to something "palpable".

"I do not think we know yet whether crypto-currencies can ever play the role of money. For the moment, I do not imagine it. According to my analysis of the monetary history, it has always been necessary that the currencies constitute something concrete. People want palpable. The problem will have to be solved if they [the cryptocurrencies] ever become money. But I have doubts, because traditionally, money should be something concrete. These currencies should nevertheless be legal, insofar as it does not hide a scam behind them ".

While it may be difficult to make Bitcoin palpable, let's bet that a libertarian such as Ron Paul might one day be seduced by the ideal driven by a decentralized digital currency.
