Global Blockchain Business Council and Survey Monkey teamed up to assess the attitude of Americans to the most popular crypto currency in the world - bitcoin. They found that awareness of the decentralized currency is growing, but the share of owners of the digital asset is still relatively low, although it is growing rapidly from year to year.

In the middle of this month, 5 761 people were interviewed in order to learn their attitude to bitcoin. Survey Monkey, one of the organizers of the study, notes that "the sample was made on the basis of age, race, gender, education and location, using data from the US Census Bureau, which reflected the demographic composition of the country."

The last time such a large-scale survey was conducted in 2013 by On Device in preparation for the London conference. Then only about 25% of Americans surveyed knew about bitcoin. A poll conducted this month demonstrates more impressive results - six out of ten respondents said they heard about bitcoin.

According to the survey, only 5% of respondents own a crypto currency. 21% of respondents said that they "are considering the possibility of adding bitcoin to their portfolios". The main holders of crypto currency are white men under the age of 34 (58%). According to the results of the study, about 10% of the millenials (who prefer the decentralized currency according to other studies) own bitcoin, while among the elderly, the owners of crypto-currencies are less than 1%. The survey also showed that less than 20% of bitcoin owners believe more in the government than in the crypto currency.

A third of the owners use bitcoin, "to avoid government regulation," 28% consider it to be "a means of preserving capital," and 63% consider the crypto currency "a profitable investment." Bitcoin owners are three times more likely than those who do not have bitcoin, claiming that they will acquire more bitcoins if they have an extra thousand dollars.

38% of all respondents (and 41% of the owners of bitcoins) consider bitcoin a bubble that will burst this year. Approximately 31% say the same about shares, and 27% believe that this will happen with housing prices. Nevertheless, the survey results show that almost 70% of respondents expect a rise in the price of bitcoin in the next 5 years. About 10% believe that it will disappear over the same period.
