Bitshares - State of the Network - 25th April 2017
The Bitshares State of the Network Reports seeks to combine raw data from a wide range of metrics and combine them into meaningful information to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares network.
Observation from this week
This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.
Another week and BitUSD is still worth $1 - either via the open market or settlement of the underlying contact.
Smartcoin issuance and market cap on the internal network continues to rise this week with the main Smartcoins (BitUSD, BitCNY, BitEUR, BitBTC, BitGold and BitSilver) reaching a market cap over 1.4 Million USD this week. As mentioned previously this is very promising sign of growth as the issuance of these assets is backed by a minimum of 175% in Bitshares core token BTS. By my calculations the value backing these assets at the moment is greater than 5 Million USD worth of Bitshares; these Bitshares are locked to the network via a smart contract allowing these smartcoins to maintain their face value without any counter party risk!.
$bkt (BitKapital) has released their new website including live market prices linking to the live Bitshares market (looks awesome!). They have also relocated operations from Cyprus to Turkey to pave the way for opportunities offered by Turkish banks. The team is continuing their effort in improving the back end tech to provided enhanced services to their customers and are even running webinars to help new users get up to speed. Check out the new website HERE
@estefantt has published the latest compilation of the Bit20 index fund. Bit20 is an asset that tracks the value of the top 20 cryptocurrencies weighted by their market capitalization; if your bullish on crypto in general but find it hard to keep up with the latest flavour of the month you might want to learn more about Bit20. i have included a picture below this section; but you can see the full breakdown HERE
@xeroc has released a new version of Uptick (v. 0.1.3) - Uptick is a python based toolkit that provides an easy to use command line interface to the Bitshares network even exposing some advanced features that are not available within the GUI. Uptick is similar to the popular Steemit tool 'Piston'. Check out his latest update HERE
@xeroc has released a new version of Python-Bitshares(v. 0.1.5) - Python-Bitshares is a python based library for interacting with the Bitshares network, it is a core component of Uptick but can be used by any developer as a basis for easy integration of their latest project. Check out the latest update HERE
@kencode has mentioned this week that one of the developers from the Bitshares-Munich team has started working on the Trezor code previously made public by @xeroc. Looking forward to seeing this progress.
@lafona has created a new witness tracker. This web based tool provides a visual overview of witness performance in relation to price feed data and block production. You can view his original post HERE and visit the 'Witness Stats' page HERE
Bitshares user bitcrab has started a exclusive WeChat channel called 'BTS Whales', entry to the chat room required verification and the entry requirement is 10 Million BTS (collateral and market orders included) . The members of this channel are aiming to drive adoption and innovation working with investors and large corporation in efforts to expand the Bitshares ecosystem. You can see the original post and details on how to join HERE
Taconator has created and published a 'fee report' showing the fees collected by the Bitshares network since October 2015 to March 2017 with a staggering 47,106,798 BTS in total. This very interesting report shows that 48% of fees are collected via Asset Creation, 26% from Account Upgrades (LTM) and 17% from Account Creations; these are only the top 3 and the report goes into a lot more detail. View his original post and summary HERE or find the full report HERE
Peerplays have launched their new website and crowdfunding model; The website looks great and includes a visual representation of the benefits for PPY holders and a graphical road map of the past achievements and future milestones; including the launch of main-net, 'Bookie' sports betting interface, Peerplays Eight, Predication markets and heaps more. The upgraded crowd funding method allows investors to send BTS, BTC, ETH, Dash, LTC, Smartcoins, Steem and others, without having to worry about private keys (during the crowd-sale they generate keys for you, just download your key-pair and keep them safe till the launch). Be sure to check out the new website and crowdfund HERE, you can also listen to updates from the Peerplays team every week on the Beyond Bitcoin Show - Reminder that the crowd-sale is only open for a few more weeks so if you want to get involved make sure you secure your portion of the network before it's to late.
@jonnybitcoin has started a forum poll regarding witness pay which was doubled right before a run up in price. The post titled "Each witness is getting paid $1200+ because of the price rise." is on the bitsharestalk forum and has a poll that allows the community to vote on the reward they believe is fair. See the post and give your input on the subject HERE

The account name does not need to be registered and the tool will not register the account on your behalf, the account name is only used in conjunction with the password to generate the keys which can be used for offline storage and then brought online when required. Check out the tool HERE

Thanks Luke, i Agree - USDT holders will start considering their options and i think BitUSD is a prime candidate for their business!

What will it take to get bitUSD on other exchanges? That, I think, could be huge.

I have spoken to Bill from Bittrex and all that is required to get BitUSD on Bittrex is for more activity to occur on the already listed BitCNY market; i believe Liquidity and Education on smartcoins are the most important aspects here. I think this also applies to other markets (more so the education aspect)

What is Uptick? Where can I learn more about that?

@xeroc has released a new version of Uptick (v. 0.1.3) - Uptick is a python based toolkit that provides an easy to use command line interface to the Bitshares network even exposing some advanced features that are not available within the GUI. Uptick is similar to the popular Steemit tool 'Piston'. Check out his latest update HERE

Nice work man :) are you using the wallet? Or just keeping them on the exchanges? Recommend trying the wallet if you havent; i think it will blow you away

I am actually keeping my BTS currently on an exchange what I am trying to avoid, so I will check out the BTS wallet. Do have a link/ tutorial?

Not sure if there is tutorial as such (there probably is somewhere). But it is a guided process.
You have a couple of choices. Bitshares has web wallets or you can also use the light client which you download an install to your machine.
For the web wallet go to bitshares.org/wallet
Light client you can get HERE
There are two mode when you sign up to the web wallets (Wallet model and Account model)
Notes:
Wallet model: Once you have entered you username and password you will be asked to download a backup of your wallet <- DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.. Keys are stored encrypted within in your browser and to make any transactions ect you will need to enter your password. If you clear your browser cache your keys will also be cleared from its memory and you will need to restore them via you backup file.
Account Model: Your username and password are used to generate your keys, this has a benefit of allowing you to login to your account from anywhere by just using your username and password (make sure you choose a strong password)
After that you are all setup; to send BTS you use your account name (instead of those huge addresses like with Bitcoin). i highly recommend sending a small test transaction from the exchange just to make sure you are comfortable (3 second block times + a slight delay from the exchange means it will hit your wallet very quickly).
Your done; have fun and go exploring, be sure to check out the exchange tab and if your on telegram come join us on the 'BitsharesDex' channel.
I would love to hear you thoughts if you have a chance.

wow. thx for the detailled response. I will follow your instructions.
Doing a small test transaction is what I also recommend always.
I recently bought some iota, currently only available through the related slack channel , kind of escrow. Then found a wallet on Github and failed with the first micro test transfer, installed another version of the wallet, repeat process and then it worked =)

Btw, cryptofresh is incorrectly showing Ruble to be an UIA, when in reality it is smartcoin (it shows it as smartcoin on the Ruble asset page, but not on the asset list), it would be cool if you include Ruble in the smart coins lists in the future. Thanks! :-)

Absolutely fantastic article. Thank you! I just came to the Bitshares and Steemit community with the EveTab move from Cryptostocks. This kind of article really helps to understand the community and all the latest developments!
Regarding EveTab, the CEO, Anton Polski, is pretty responsive. I'd love to hear you chat with him about the company and the move to Bitshares!

Wow that's awesome!, i would really like to learn more about the EVETAB project. i bought a share so i could be a part of it but good to hear from someone involved in the project.
Would be great if you and Anton would join us in the BitsharesDEX telegram channel (most active Bitshares Channel with ~500 members), and/or join the weekly BeyondBitcoin show (@officialfuzzy is the host); projects RSVP to discuss their project, Beyond Bitcoin has been a huge part of Bitshares for many years now and has many followers.
This weeks RSVP: https://steemit.com/beyondbitcoin/@officialfuzzy/guest-signups-beyond-bitcoin-hangout-205-4-28-17-debut-projects-for-a-cut-of-hangout-earnings
