Due to a sad series of events steem is no longer decentralized nor censorship-resistant.
I don't know how it will look like in the future but right now it's more like a personal database than a proper blockchain.

That is not an option yet. I hope one day it will be. What has been advertised was the option to spend the walking dollars in some services such as dropbox and netflix.
As I've been saying in this series of posts about bitwalking... I like the idea but the truth is that it doesn't work yet.
