Handy way to defeat the RNC Armbar Defense

in bjj •  7 years ago

So this is a really niche move, it only works if you were armbaring from top and if they use the RNC grip to defend it. But having said that if that is the situation you are in it is a very low energy way to try to finish them through the defense. It also 'sneaks' up on them.

Let me be clear on 3 things. 1.) I'm not in the video but I did show the technique to my instructor who is the Black Belt demonstraighting it. 2.) as far as we know I invented it tho I know that grappling has been around for a long time so it is unlikely there is anything left to be invented lets just say I did it without anyone showing me to 3.) it's had a few names in it's time as you can tell by the different intro name vs video title name. I've since shortened the name to Robacana.
Oh there is a 4th thing, feel free to follow the overall channel it has MANY great techniques and Professor went to school to be a physical education specialist so he gives fine details and we have a AV guy who runs his own business so the production quality is very good on top of that.

I love this technique, thanks for sharing, but not to be critical, but wouldn't that technically be an Americana because of the direction of rotation? that switch at end if your opponent is escaping is awesome too.

the switch part Professor added
I call it the Rob-Acana and the title of the video is Rob Americana to but it got put into the video intro as Rob Kimura in part as a mistake and in part as an inside joke.
When I was first learning the game, the Kimura caught my eye first, and when I saw Ompolatas I said "hey those are Kimuras done with my legs!" and when I saw Toe Holds I said "hey, that's a Foot Kimura!" and when I saw Americanas I said "hey those are Kimuras where the hand is pointed up!"
so I jokingly started using Kimura as a reference for all grappling.

If you play with it a bit and find out any other tidbits let me know! it actually got put into severl peoples games they liked it so much. The great irony is I don't use many straight armbars so I rarely get the chane to use my own move lol

btw you should consider following that youtube channel anyway my professor went to college and got a degree in physical education and in many peoples views the way he teaches is unparalleled.

For sure, I am clicking follow now. Embomb701

Thanks for letting me in on the inside joke. I too said an Omoplata was a leg Kimura when I first learned it LOL. I love top side armbars but I usually attack them jacare style so I am on top learning forward instead of back. I only sit back when I am using the armbar position as a break lol. Grappling like a 34 year old lol.

I am actually in my 30s heh
actually I think when I was 33 or 34 I was doing the warmup with weight vest and then two weight vests
or carrying a sandbag when I was doing shrimp drills etc.
my grappling was basically terrible at the time but I had great conditioning!

Nice drilling, I never tried warmups in a weighted vest. The way I work on my conditioning is has and always will be Sprints. But I only do them in fair weather.

I have heard good things about sprints how do you set them up?

There are many ways but for the first time, do 10 100 yard sprints and walk back as your only rest.

I'm not sure I could do that, for me a jogging pace might be a sprint right now

but I acutally used to do my cardio that way before I started bjj I believe back after highschool
