Throwback picture to 2015 in paradise Greek island Paros training with master Marcelo Alonso . Marcelo is 5th degree blackbelt and has been head instructor in Carslon Gracie's dojo for a long time and has training and taught to almost all the old school Carlson Gracie members. He was the first high rank figure that I met in person and had a huge impact on my game and technique mentality. He has my utmost respect.20150625_123447.jpg

Also great humour as you can see

All the techniques in my book are inspired or they have been taught to my by great teachers of our art , my strategy is to attend the best seminars and go to the best schools in the world and take just few solid techniques from each master, actually i prefere to find which is technique this person uses most and with highest success rate and just learn the principles of it and how he understands it, then implement that where it fits to my game.

I first encountered Bjj with Marcelo Alonso in Tacoma 2003 while in college. I trained briefly with him before traveling back home to Sweden, I didn’t train for years . I later settled in NYC 2007 and found jiujitsu again. I’m now a blue belt in maters division. I often watch Marcelo videos and reminisce. If he hadn’t rolled with me when I was new I would probabaly not have fallen in love with bjj. I was a 205 lbs football player benching 315 for repetitions and squatting well over 400 lbs but I could not get this man of me. Although I didn’t train for years after my initial six months I never forgot that. Sorry for long reply but I am happy to see him in a post and nostalgic.

Man Marcelo is such a good teacher and such an unforgetable figure. Haven't felt the energy he creates in a jiu jitsu class with anyone else. So Tacoma? You training with Shawn? Cabana?

Was a long time ago. The names elude me... I train out of Workshop NYC now. Under a Renzo black belt. If you ever around ..
