I have a couple daughters who, despite the shortcomings of their father in the looks department, will likely turn out to be 2 cute little blonde teenagers 1.5 years apart. My only option was to turn them onto BJJ for the following reasons:
- They would stay active in years leading up to teen age in the era of ipads and PVR
- Learn something they could use in life more valuable than kicking a ball (they are in team sports too and I love them as well)
- Learn a little discipline from someone besides grumpy daddy (who was convinced he would not be Red Foreman as a dad)
- Become aware of their bodies before puberty threw them for a loop
- Have the confidence to deal with physical and emotional situations that are part of high school
- Be able to choke out the little bastard that thought he might be able to overpower a girl to get what he wants (so I wouldn't have to grow grey hairs worrying about it or do some community service for showing them the error in their ways)
- "If you can stick with it til you are 16, you will, hands down, be the coolest chick in your class."
There are so many other reasons kids will benefit from BJJ but I will save those for other posts. Thank you @bjjworldtravler and the rest of the leaders showing our children the way. Needless to say, there are fewer things that help you believe you might not be such a bad parent than moments like these.
Even when you feel like one of these:
I 100% believe, hands down, that #bjj is the best thing that can happen in a child's life. Great post!
