I have heard of the term "Black Wall Street" before but have never known much about it. Black Wall Street refers to a neighbourhood called Greenwood which is in Tulsa, Oklahoma the area had the highest and most prosperous concentration of black business' at the time which was around the early 1920's.

This was a time where racial tensions were at their highs, so much so that a riot dubbed the "Tulsa race riot" razed the neighbourhood to the ground, the main perpetrators were said to be a "White mob" and the police though many believe the main culprits to be the Oklahoma state government, at the time the Oklahoma Bureau of Vital Statistics reported 39 dead this figure was disputed by some organisations one being the American Red Cross who placed the figure at 300.

One particular victim of these riots was a Dr. A.C. Jackson, described as the "most able Negro surgeon in America" he was gunned down in cold blood as he left his home.

Below is some footage which has been remastered and shows how things looked in colour before and after the riots.

I believe it would be very hard to get a true account of how and why these riots happened but i am of the opinion that government are the main instigators of race tensions the world over even today.
