Blast From the Past Number 3

in blastfromthepast •  7 years ago  (edited)

Another blast from the past. Here are some photos of the Page family members back in the 1930 - 40s. It truly is amazing to see the difference from then to now. Most of these were all taken on the family farm.

Here are some interesting things that happened in the year 1938, when Rob's dad was 1 year old.
"Superman burst onto the comic book scene, and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" made its debut as the first full-length animated feature." - The Great Depression, World War II and the 1930's
Just a bit of history for that year. I have read many sad stories about this time in history due to the great depression, I wanted to add in something that was upbeat from that time.

The cow was not satisfied with the hay that her owners gave to her. She must have gotten out of the pasture. Time to get the last scraps that were on the hay wagon.

Back when these photos were taken it was too dark in the houses to take pictures. They would bring the chairs outside and take the pictures outside. Many pictures I see of people they are standing in front of a vehicle.

This is Rob's aunt. She must have been going out to a special event. She looks cold posing for this picture in the snow. Do you remember the old bonnets that women wore? By this time in our history, the bonnets were getting smaller.

This photo was taken in 1938. This is Rob's grandfather, grandmother and his dad. This is his dad's first birthday. His dad was the oldest child in a family of six.

Digging the car out of the snow. It must have been warm, they don't have any coats on. What a nice old car! This car was from the 1920's. So we are guessing that they had the car in the 1930s. This car in its prime would go 40 to 45 miles per hour. They had a fuel economy of 13 to 21 miles per gallon. My have things changed!

Thanks so much for your comment. I like your tweety bird pic

My granddad had a car like the one in the last photo. He was still driving it in the '50s. He tried to teach my grandmother to drive and on her first lesson, she drove the car through the chicken coop into the duck pond. That ended the driving lessons. lol

I can see how that would end the lessons. That was a nice car he had. Hope there wasn't much damage. Great story thank you for sharing.

These are great old black and white shots and you are right a lot of the pictures where right in front of their cars. I think if you had a car back then it was your pride and joy. My parents where both born in the 1920's and we have tons of old pics. I love seeing my Mum in her bathing suit back then wow cover up or what. Thanks for sharing these old pics made my day.

I am so glad you enjoyed them. Yes I would agree that if they had a car back then it was their pride and joy.

Thanks for stopping by.

Another nice post to make us all remember our past. Thank you @carey-page.

I like your imagination about the situation based on the picture you see.

It's also nice to know about some of your family members through these pictures.

Good day my friend.

Thank you. I can only imagine for some of them. We have lost touch with some of the family, so I am not able to get any information about some of them.

Hopefully if we can remember where we come from and what it was like maybe we can change things so that the future is better.

Thanks so much for your support. Have a fabulous day!

That's fine and you are welcome.

I like your frankness and eagerness to know something and trying to change the things.

I believe that we all have a choice in everything that we are presented with in our life. Sometimes people get caught up in the emotion of what is going on around them. The energy in motion (e-motion). It is our right as human beings to stop and evaluate how we want to respond and feel in that moment.

As for the trying to change things. I can only hope that I can continue to change myself and remember why I was put here on this earth. If I am doing that then I pray that change can happen.

Oh, how awesome is that!! Very well said. Yes, we need to change ourselves first and then try to change others.

There is a famous quote from a Kannada(South Indian Language) from a well known poet called KuVeMpu and he writes Enaadaru aagu, Modalu Maanavanaagu meaning Whatever you become, first become a human being, how truthful that is and you made me remember that today with your response.

Yes, we are all here on earth to do something before we go back, n matter whether it Steemit or just helping someone around us in whatever way someone need and we can help.

Thanks for this awesome friendship, I am happy to read your responses.

Have a wonderful week ahead. :)

Thank you. I am glad we have a friendship going as well. It is great to have these conversations. It is so nice to get into some depth with you.

You are right our task might be very simple or it might be very complex. However the task is what is important while we are here on earth.

You have a wonderful week as well!

Thank you.

Yes, we have some common liking and that has made our discussions interesting.

Looking forward to many such happy discussions.

Me too!

Wow some amazing shots real history great to see thanks 💯🐒

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Thank you for writing a lovely post 💯🐒

Thank you!

The hay is always greener....all of our cows and sheep are just the same. Whatever isnt in easy reach must taste better... :)

Yes they all seem to think that. The goats are the same way.

That is way cool that you guys have these photos!!!

Yes it is. We actually have so many negatives to convert so we don't loose them. It is cool to see all of the history.

Haha ... I love that cow. She has quite a personality. It reminds me of a nursery rhyme "The cow jumped over the moon." That period of time was tough and I am so glad that generation didn't give up so we get to live today. Thank you so much for sharing these photos.

I am glad that you enjoyed the photos. Yes I am sure that cow did have some personality. It was hard then. However we see them as the good old days. Perception is everything. Thank you for stopping in.
