Global Block Builders Conference - Day One Overview (Part Two)

Sorry for the delay in getting this out; I had run out of synthroid and was beset by allergies at the same time...I set aside these two presentations to summarize so that I could discuss them at the same time.

I will add my own thoughts in italics

Space

I have always argued that the future of mankind demands that we colonize space, so these two presentations really caught my attention. In addition, one of these was tied in my mind for the best presentations that I saw: Rick Tumlinson of SpaceFund, the other was by Lea Thompson (@steemonboarding, @coruscate), who made her presentation on How to Have a Meaningful Conversation on Crypto (see the Day One Overview for that summary)

David Forman CEO of Cascade Systems Co-Founder of SpaceBridge Logistics

  • The aerospace industry revolution correlates with the blockchain and industrial revolutions
  • At present, there are 11,000 satellites that are planned to be launched in the next decade
  • This is compared to the 1,100 satellites that are currently in orbit
  • One of the benefits of this is that the Earth will be served by a global broadband network which will be faster than out our present fiber optic networks
  • A problem exists in that there are multiple conflicting standards being used to launch
  • Spacebridge logistics will use block chain to resolve that by providing a "common layer of truth"
  • Coming from my own studies in homeland security, I can tell you that there is a huge problem in interoperability when different organizations are working together...I can easily see the transition in thinking to the problems that occur when people try to use different tech standards on a common project
  • I would say that David's approach is similar to the "plug and play" interfaces that made Windows so well used

Rick Tumlinson of SpaceFund

  • From their site..."...the world’s first trillionaire is going to make their fortune in space."
  • Space Settlement Conference will be here in Austin this coming November
  • The world's first commercial space launch took place in matagorda, Texas
  • spacenews.com
  • as per David's presentation...mobile phone access will be cheaper
  • The Space Shuttle was a 100 billion dollar platform that could only take 35 people into space
  • The BFR rocket can take 100 people
  • Spacefund maintains a database for the rating of launch companies
  • "Spacenuts" are the same kind of geeks as blockchain enthusiasts..as I laughingly agree in my own case ;>
  • There will be people in Mars in less than 15 years...wow, just wow, and how I would love to be one of them
  • Spacefund provides imagination AND capital
  • "When moon?"...see here
  • NASA built the framework which now facilitates private investment
  • Raised over 50 million dollars
  • Every advancement in space leads to benefits on earth
  • A bigly interesting presentation --if anyone wants to fund me for the Space Settlement Conference, I will take video and do the same kind of writeup to share here on Steemit

One more post to come with a summary of the social events (that I actually went to) and how I followed up (or didn't ;>). The GBB meeting was a great experience!
