Food Stamps: Isn't a Blockchain based System a Better Propsal than Government issued Snack Boxes?

in blockchain •  7 years ago

The first thought that comes to mind is airplane food. No one should go hungry in this day and age. But "let them eat cake",
might turn into "let them eat catfood".

There are pros and cons for this proposal just like anything. However, instead of even humoring these, how about envisioning Blockchain tech? The government wants to save some loot, so they are trying to streamline, suggesting that food stamp recipients should receive a box of food and cut out $90 of their credits.

If they are trying to prevent food stampers from just selling credits for cash, then I suggest using a block chain. Talk about being force feed! If the SNAP program went full blockchain, that would solve the fraud problem, and allow people to retain their privacy. Maybe lowering the cost of subsidized food boxes could incentivize recipients into ordering them. Getting more bang for your buck(or block) so to speak. Either way, they should retain that freedom of choice.

Using tokens instead of issuing 'same as cash' types transactions would also have huge economic and environmental implications. It would be easier to tweak supply chain mechanics. This was a huge problem with TPP. Imagine all the gas people wouldn't need to burn! From farm to the dinner table costs way less. This would actually be really beneficial in the long run.

Thanks for reading and God bless your day!
