Influencer marketing is a popular recent advertising trend in which brands are promoted by popular social media figures. They are often seen as more “human”, spontaneous and relatable than distant celebrities, and some advertisers have already made good use of those qualities. However, this is still a new and haphazardly organised field that can create many unexpected difficulties for both brands and those who wish to profit from promoting them.
Cryptocurrencies and influencer marketing seem like they could go hand in hand. After all, they both represent trends towards the decentralisation of economy. Vinta, a Brazilian software company, and its subsidiary Inflr International Corporation certainly believe in this potential synergy. Inflr is intended as a blockchain platform that would allow brands to make use of advanced AI algorithms to run their influencer marketing campaigns.
How will Inflr facilitate ad campaigns?
To join the platform as an influencer, you would need to either have 10,000 followers on a social network of your choice or hold a sufficient number of the platform's InflrCoins and pass through an internal audit. When you register, an artificial intelligence algorithm will analyze your social media data, including your topics, the emotional context of posts and the size and the demographic profile. Based on its analysis, you will receive an Inflr Score from 0 to 100 that will measure your influence and determine the appropriate monetary rewards for your posts.
Advertisers will need to hold a certain amount of InflrCoins to access the platform, with higher amounts unlocking additional discounts and bonuses. Once they are on the platform, though, they gain access to detailed influencer profiles, which they could filter by different criteria such as location, gender, social networks and post value. Agreements between brands and their chosen influencers will be arranged and executed through automatically generated smart contracts. Inflr will support different kinds of remuneration, whether it is in fiat currencies (through PayPal, bank transfers or credit cards), merchandise or InflrCoin. Fiat payments will be processed within 48 hours, while InflrCoin payments will be instantaneous. Advertiser approval will be needed for influencer promotional content to be published. Payment will be made automatically after it has been up for long enough.
Inflr will provide advertisers with automated and user-friendly campaign management options and analytics, which will be generated in real time. Third-party developers will be able to use the platform's APIs to create apps that could accept Inflr as payment or offer it as a reward. Inflr Hubs in the company's regional headquarters will provide a shared workspace and venue for events and training for the platform's influencers and guests. Influencers will be able to use their facilities and equipment to create and edit professional-grade photo and video content.
What gives this project an advantage?
Inflr promises to provide a cheap and simple way for advertisers and influencers to collaborate on marketing campaigns. It would also make it much easier for new influencers to be discovered. Its scoring system and automatic smart contracts should remove the causes of many disputes in a transparent and impartial way. Since it will support payments with local fiat currencies, it should also eventually pave the way for international collaborations.
The Vinta company has worked on the platform since 2015. An early version of the platform has already been released as an MVP and is in use by Brazil-based partner advertising agencies. The project has acquired some partners within the cryptoindustry as well. The launch of Inflr's 1.0 version is scheduled for November 2018. While it will initially launch in Brazil, it plans to eventually spread to English-speaking countries and Japan, where this model of advertising is especially popular, and then beyond. More Inflr Hubs will be set up to accommodate this growth, but Inflr's other services could be provided even without this additional physical infrastructure.

The next stage of social marketing?
Some have doubts about the viability of influencer marketing, saying that it is only a fad and that followers on social media are often not that strongly affected by the people they've subscribed to. However, it is clear that this trend is here to stay for the near future, and if anything can bring out its full potential, a decentralised platform such as this one will.
While its use of blockchain technology and smart contracts could definitely help streamline the business operations around influencer marketing, Inflr's biggest contribution could be its analysis. But that depends on how accurate and how useful its algorithms will turn out to be in actual practice, and also on whether or not enough users would accept their value assessments as valid. With their support, Inflr could grow to become a major social marketing hub and empower popular Internet users.
